Ungoverning = the attack on the capacity and legitimacy of the part of government called “the administrative state.” In their article “The Path from Conspiracy to Ungoverning,” Russell Muirhead and Nancy L. Rosenblum discuss this less-studied aspect of antidemocratic politics. As Donald Trump returns to power, his lean into ungoverning has the potential to cripple the work of government and remove constraints on presidential power. A nomad all his life, Benjamin would root for the Dodgers, uprooted from their native Brooklyn. Arendt ardently repatriated in NYC would cheer on the Yankees. Imagine the barstool arguments between those old friends!
Would Walter Benjamin root for the Dodgers? Would Hannah Arendt be a Yankees fan? And more importantly, can baseball save us from totalitarianism? Find out some of the answers in @cs_sheppard's "Take Me Out with the Crowd" (from 2021): muse.jhu.edu/pub/1/article/8… #WorldSeries #AmericanPastTime #LastBestHope #Vote2024

Delighted that this is out ♥️ It was a big pleasure to start this conversation, connecting @MazzucatoM’s views on state & industr strategy with a discussion of state capacity & policy challenges in the GS. Thanks @SocResJournal for the great issue!
Our new paper “Rethinking Industrial Strategies and the State: A Global South Perspective” has just been published in the latest issue of @SocResJournal: “Challenges to Democracy and the Future of Capitalism”. In this paper, @lmonaco13 and I highlight the distinct challenges faced by late industrialisers in the Global South. Against this background, we discuss the ways in which industrial strategy should be radically redesigned, proposing core “ingredients” for a purposeful mission-oriented approach that places stronger emphasis on the Global South and development.
