The future of solar thermal power once promised so much, but has the shine worn off?

This project is too big to fail. It's the result of a 5 year community campaign by @Solar4PtAugusta to transition a previous coal community to a clean energy jobs hub. We will campaign so the SA and Fed Govs step up and make this project a reality. indaily.com.au/news/business…

I feel so sad for the people of Port Augusta who couldn’t have campaigned any harder to bring @SolarReserve to town - a progressive community that wanted to replace the energy and the jobs that went with the closure of the coal fired power station – at Port Augusta, South Australia

I can't overstate how important it is to get a large solar thermal project up - a renewable storage technology that is perfectly suited to Australian conditions. Implementation will bring it down the cost curve. Why is this iconic project not being supported?

Today, #PortAugusta has been let down with @SolarReserve pulling out of building #solar4ptaugusta after not securing finance & @marshall_steven & @ScottMorrisonMP must answer how this was allowed to happen. #saparli #auspol (1 of 9)

The South Australian and Federal Governments promised South Australians they would support building solar thermal in Port Augusta, they must now uphold their commitment and ensure the project goes ahead.

Following media reports that the SA Government is reviewing the Port Augusta solar thermal plant contract we have been absolutely assured that the Government is committed to the project and the contract. We can't wait for construction to begin next year! #solar4ptaugusta #saparli
