So they used our pension funds to hold shares so that Dangote buys them and some of you are celebrating? Why did Dangote need to buy shares that my pension owns, moving ownership from me, a Kenyan, to a Nigerian - and making me lose on dividends in the process?

In January 2025 my mom’s lung cancer spread to her brain. The drug with the best chance of helping her was approved in China but not here.
A doctor told me, almost as an aside, that if she were Chinese she could buy it at a pharmacy.
So I flew to Shanghai and came home with 26 boxes in my luggage. That was 19 months ago. My mom is still here, still working, and in her words has had an amazing three years.
The drug was approved in China in 2023. The FDA approved it in July 2025. It still is not for sale here. I know of at least 30 Americans who have made the same trip.
I have been scared to tell this story because I worried it could cost my mom access to the medicine keeping her alive. But the problem matters more than my silence. These drugs need to be developed and available here, and that means FDA reform.
Art Allen at KFF Health News told our story this week. It also ran in The Washington Post.

One thing I observe around Africa, compared to what I see in Europe, is that my people are addicted to launching flashy new projects. We don't spend nearly enough time on the dirty, unglamorous work of operations and maintenance (O&M).
You can't really launch maintenance, and that's a problem for many African leaders. There are no ribbon-cutting ceremonies or big headlines. Yet that's where so much of the work should be happening. We need to get better at maintaining what we've already built.
The question is, how do we make maintenance sexy?

No mention of the 30% KRA takes out of the gate. Or what else KRA also takes as VAT, etc.
Or the other shavings from SHA, NSSF etc that are supposed to be working for citizens.
What value do Kenyans get from their bilking?
Ruto on affordable housing deductions: I want to tell those who are talking about the dignity of the payslip, we are lucky... There are other Kenyans who can do the job you have today. Think about the dignity of the 1.1 million Kenyans out there who, today, can feed their families because you raised 1.5% of your salary. That is how we should reason.

Intelligence must draw on memory. The mind must not simply compile data — as an algorithm now does more quickly than we can — but recall lived experiences, which contain depths of meaning that only the human soul can recognize, and connect more deeply with the goodness of these experiences. Everything that is good begins “with the Spirit” and thus possesses a breath, a dynamism and a sense of communion that, once experienced, are engraved upon the heart. vatican.va/content/leo-xiv/e…

58bpm yet it is a Monday after many coffees and some terse words with a provider who is making my blood boil.
Thankful for legacy effects. Most would be at 90bpm and about to blow an artery...

Imagine Boeing's CEO saying the world should accept a few plane crashes to get faster innovation in aviation. He'd be gone by lunch.
“We believe the world should accept some bad things happening for the benefits of this technology.”

War is impersonal now. No young person will ever enlist if getting lava poured on you by a robot is the way it likely ends. The evil governments of the world should recognize tech has gone too far and agree to go back to the basics of punching the shit out of your opps.
