Separatists lost 3 to 1. Danielle Smith lost on all four constitutional questions. Both tried to use referendums to β€œsend a message” and β€œgain leverage.” Both learned the risks the hard way. My column in Policy Magazine tomorrow draws out the lessons from their failures.

More from the ongoing soap opera that is the APP.
OK. Here's a summary of tonight's Alberta Prosperity Project meeting, with Mitch Sylvestre doing most of the talking. Sylvestre denies he and Jeff Rath were fired from the organization, claiming Tanya Clemens and Chris Scott lacked the authority to remove them. He accused Danielle Smith of betraying separatists and warned that alienating independence supporters could hand the next election to the NDP. He's aiming to mobilize 1,000 independence supporters for the upcoming UCP AGM in Calgary, with plans to elect four or five sympathetic provincial board members who could help trigger a leadership review. Another organizer noted three UCP constituency associations have already passed motions calling for a leadership review. She alleged UCP president Rob Smith was working behind the scenes to get constituency associations to pass letters supporting the premier. APP supporters are being encouraged to buy UCP memberships, attend constituency association meetings and seek positions on local boards. Sylvestre didn't ruled out forming a new political party if independence supporters are pushed out of the UCP. He also flatly rejected suggestions that his efforts could split the UCP and help elect the NDP. "Who split this party up? Danielle Smith split this party up. Period. End of conversation." And perhaps the most revealing statement of the evening came when Sylvestre explained why separatists should join the UCP: "If you're buying a UCP membership, you are not buying it to support the UCP. You are buying it to support our cause for independence." #abpoli #cdnpoli

I remember Chris Scott complaining to Berta Proud Dad on a live I watched months ago that Mitch Sylvestre/Jeff Rath had kicked him off the APP board for grifting. And Chris was only at Let's Talk Alberta events after that.
Chris Scott was pushed off the board of the Alberta Prosperity Project, btw. Even the other separatists think he's a grifting thief who's only speaking at evemts because he's broke, according to Chris himself:

Bob Fife: "Let's remember where Danielle Smith comes from. She was a radio host for a long period of time. And her audience were the very same people who she's fed off of and encouraged who wanted to separate from the country."

While Albertans were focused on last week’s referendum, the UCP government quietly released its long-overdue year-end financial reports β€” more than 100 days after the June 30 statutory deadline. The timing deserves scrutiny. So does the delay. These reports are not optional reading. They are essential public accountability documents that tell Albertans how their money has been managed, where it has been spent, and whether the government has met its financial obligations. Why were these reports delayed, and why has there been so little public discussion about it? Albertans deserve transparency from their government, not just when it is convenient, but especially when it isn’t. And they still lost miserably
It appears Jeffrey Rath and Mitch Sylvestre were fired from the Alberta prosperity project last month and removed from the board of directors. The move was kept quiet to not overshadow the vote.

It's official. More votes were counted in Alberta's referendum than in any other vote in Canadian history, including all federal elections.

β€œScapegoating non-permanent residents is not going to lower the cost of living. That’s not going to fix our classrooms. They keep essential services open. In many cases, they are frontline workers. And now they’re being treated as disposable.” Alberta welcomed migrant workers. Now, it wants to restrict their rights (via the Guardian) theguardian.com/world/2026/o…
