It doesn't matter how "blue" California is. The state deserves a president who will take this firestorm seriously.

Former President Obama discusses his conversation with John McCain about speaking at his funeral, joking that “it showed… his sense of humor… After all, what better way to get a last laugh than to make George and I say nice things about him to a national audience.”

Just a sample of the sad scene we faced at the Trump rally in Tampa. I’m very worried that the hostility whipped up by Trump and some in conservative media will result in somebody getting hurt. We should not treat our fellow Americans this way. The press is not the enemy.

Mass shootings are not inevitable. The majority of Americans support common sense gun reform. Though we feel angry, heartbroken, even helpless now, we have the power to elect people who will protect lives, not gun sellers’ profits. Remember these feelings in November, and VOTE.

It has become so formulaic:
1) A mass shooting.
2) Politicians say it’s “disrespectful” to raise questions about the ready availability of weapons of war while people are grieving.
3) Times passes.
4) Nothing happens.
And then we do it all over again.

We are grieving with Parkland. But we are not powerless. Caring for our kids is our first job. And until we can honestly say that we're doing enough to keep them safe from harm, including long overdue, common-sense gun safety laws that most Americans want, then we have to change.

The anniversary of the devastating earthquake 8 years ago is a day to remember the tragedy, honor the resilient people of Haiti, & affirm America’s commitment to helping our neighbors. Instead, we‘re subjected to Trump’s ignorant, racist views of anyone who doesn’t look like him.
