A STAR OF DAVID IN JBEIL/BYBLOS?
What is it doing there? And how much of Lebanon's history have we misunderstood, overlooked, or simply stopped questioning?
Some years ago, while exploring Jbeil/Byblos (Geb'El), I noticed a six-pointed star (Hexagram)carved or displayed on the northern tower of the Crusader wall, right by the entrance to the famous old souk.
What is it doing there? What can its presence tell us about the layers of history, symbolism and cultural encounters that shaped our Lebanese heritage?
This is exactly why Discover Phoenicia exists:
To go beyond the familiar historical narratives, document overlooked sites, investigate unusual details and make Lebanon's heritage accessible to everyone.
At Discover Phoenicia, we investigate the details others walk past — through field expeditions, archaeology, research and documentary storytelling.

“The first step in liquidating a people is to erase its memory. Destroy its books, its culture, its history. Then have somebody write new books, manufacture a new culture, invent a new history. Before long the nation will begin to forget what it is and what it was.“ Milan Kundera.

Hyde Park, on the eastern edge of Sydney's CBD, is the oldest public parkland in Australia. Governor Lachlan Macquarie dedicated it in 1810, and it went on to host the colony's first official horse race meeting, early cricket matches and military drills…

Jordanian and Lebanese Christians occupy fundamentally different historical and political positions.
Jordanian Christians constitute roughly 2% of a predominantly Muslim Hashemite kingdom whose constitution establishes Islam as the state religion. Lebanese Christians, by contrast, constitute roughly a third of the population, alongside substantial Sunni and Shia communities. Lebanon has no religion of state.
Under Patriarch Elias Peter Hoayek, Maronites played a central role in securing Greater Lebanon in 1920, building on a distinct political project that had developed throughout the 19th century. Lebanese Christians helped shape the state, retain the presidency under the confessional system, and have exercised profound influence over its education, economy, arts and intellectual life.
There is also a distinction in national narratives: Jordanian Christian identities often embrace Arab and tribal heritage, whereas influential currents of Lebanese Christian nationalism have emphasized Phoenician continuity and a distinct Lebanese identity.
These are different historical experiences, not interchangeable minority situations. Any solidarity on the part of Lebanese Christians is purely religious and humane same as a Muslim in Indonesia would sympathise with the plight of a Bosnian or a Turk. So spare us the drama and unnecessary comparisons

« La droite en Europe est lâche.
« Les Occidentaux ont taxé les Chrétiens du Liban de fascistes.
« Demain ils (gauchisme, arabisme, islamisme et palestinisme) pénètreront jusqu’au cœur de la France… ils envahiront l’Europe, et personne n’osera parler pour ne pas être taxé de fasciste.

The Palestinian flag was mainly the symbol of an ideology aimed at destroying Christendom.
It started first in Christian Lebanon, then it moved to Western Europe.

As war isolated his community, parish life intensified. Daily Rosaries. Eucharistic adoration. Visits to the sick and help for struggling families.

For the first time since 1926….. A scientific lecture with international and local experts on multilateralism, identities and governance.
The truth and reality, without embellishment. Without ideology. Without chewing on empty concepts like coexistence, integration, unity, secularism, and citizenship.
Contrary to the platitude churned -and the ideology promoted- by USJ and AUB lectures, and contrary to what Christian political parties have been promoting since 1926
Finally. The truth, scientifically told

Lebanon is indeed home to the largest pine forest in the Middle East, specifically the spectacular Bkassine Pine Forest located in South Lebanon near Jezzine. Spanning roughly 3 to 4 million square meters, Bkassine is recognized as the largest fruitful stone pine (Pinus pinea) forest in the Mediterranean region and the Middle East.
