Don't start the Bible from Genesis. I would recommend starting with Colossians, a summary of Christianity in 4 short chapters.
Follow with Mark, John, Acts, James, and Revelation.
Then go back and read from Genesis, or use a Bible reading plan.
Test writing Psalm 1:1-3 with my Jinhao x169 Fountain Pen. Yes my handwriting is bad. It felt like writing with ice on ice.
An evening prayer for you
Psalm 5:8 NLT — Lead me in the right path, O LORD,
or my enemies will conquer me.
Make your way plain for me to follow.
I was reading Job last night and I see Job wants to know what he has done so he can repent.
Job 10:2 NIV — I say to God: Do not declare me guilty, but tell me what charges you have against me.
Job 13:23 NIV — How many wrongs and sins have I committed? Show me my offense and my sin.
When Job and his friends argue with each other, all of them are declaring how incredible God's work is.
This reminds me of some of the “arguments” my wife and I have had. There came a point where we discovered we were both taking the same side. We were just expressing it differently.
This is what reading Job is like. His friends want him to repent, Job is asking “Of what?”
Their conversation reminds me of Posts here on X or other Social Media. Brothers and Sisters arguing with each other, sometimes on the same side. We pay attention to the argument instead of the person. Sadly our nature hasn't changed.
I'll leave you with this, from Ephesians 4:2-3
“Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. ”
Bildad tells Job his kids died because they deserved it.
Job 8:4 NIV — "When your children sinned against him, he gave them over to the penalty of their sin."
Don't be a crappy friend. Don't be a Bildad.
When Boaz meets Ruth and learns of how she cared for Naomi, he gives her this blessing.
Ruth 2:12 NLT — "May the LORD, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge, reward you fully for what you have done.”
I wish the same blessing for my Christian brothers and sisters.
Donkey flex!
Judges 10:3-4 NIV — "He was followed by Jair of Gilead, who led Israel twenty-two years. He had thirty sons, who rode thirty donkeys. They controlled thirty towns in Gilead, which to this day are called Havvoth Jair."
When I read the Old Testament, I often wonder how in-bred the people are.
Abimelek a son of Gideon, walks into his mother’s town Shechem and says they should have one king, him because he is related, rather than the 70 sons of Gideon. The people agree.
Now why didn’t one of them want to be king?
God does eventually stir up the people of Shechem to fight Abimelek for his crime against Gideon’s sons.
The other thought is, this is how easily people who are slaves to sin (Romans 6) follow whatever comes along.
I was reading the story of Deborah in Judges. The victory song in Judges 5 give the Victory to the Lord, as she told Barak.
Many of Israel’s tribes didn't come to help in the fight against Sisera. But this town was cursed by name.
Judges 5:23 NLT — ‘Let the people of Meroz be cursed,’ said the angel of the LORD.
‘Let them be utterly cursed,
because they did not come to help the LORD—
to help the LORD against the mighty warriors."
Here the pre-incarnate Jesus was with Deborah and Barak.
There was no other mention of this town, but they had to be nearby. There's no mention of a refusal, just lack of caring.
Is this an example of how the Lord looks at those who are Lukewarm or neutral?
Those who stand back and won't commit to Christ, but also won't commit to evil.
During my reading of Judges last night and came across this passage.
Judges 2:10-11 NIV — "After that whole generation had been gathered to their ancestors, another generation grew up who knew neither the LORD nor what he had done for Israel. Then the Israelites did evil in the eyes of the LORD and served the Baals."
I thought to myself, "Where are the priests? The Tabernacle was at Shiloh. How could they abandon Yahweh so fast?"
It occurred to me I was judging a people who did NOT have the Holy Spirit.
With no remembrance and no restrained, the people behaved as we would expect.
During my study of Romans, I reached this verse in Romans.
Romans 8:5 NLT — "Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit."
We have the gift of God's Spirit, let us give thanks that we can let the "Spirit control your mind and lead to life and peace" Rom 8:6.
I recently finished Deuteronomy and this passage regarding kings stood out.
Deuteronomy 17:18-20 NIV — "When he takes the throne of his kingdom, he is to write for himself on a scroll a copy of this law, taken from that of the Levitical priests. It is to be with him, and he is to read it all the days of his life so that he may learn to revere the LORD his God and follow carefully all the words of this law and these decrees and not consider himself better than his fellow Israelites and turn from the law to the right or to the left. Then he and his descendants will reign a long time over his kingdom in Israel."
There is no record of a King of Israel copying the law and reading it every day.
The Bible does record Kings being given found copies of the law and repenting after they read it.
By the way I use many Bible apps for study, but the Blue Letter Bible app is the most prominent. I want to give them a shout out.

The "Ladder Sermon"
Would Billy Graham or Charles Stanley do this?
Did it give reason for the enemies of Christ to blaspheme?
Did it cause the Body of Christ to fight itself?
Prophet illustrations were ordered by Yahweh directly.
Was this given the same way?
Jesus keeps His promises
“Know this first of all, that in the last days mockers will come with their mocking, following after their own lusts, and saying, “Where is the promise of His coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all continues just as it was from the beginning of creation.” ”
2 Peter 3:3-4 NASB1995
At @FoothillsChurch going through Revelation. Today was chapter 6.
Reformation Month
I watched the 2003 film "Luther". While I'm sure it's no documentary I did enjoy it.
The scene of people buying indulgences and crawling up steps on their knees was well done. It showed how Rome ran everything like a factory.
I wish they actually quoted some of Luther's writings, since that was the whole point.
“For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.”
Romans 5:5b NLT
I am amazed that there are Christians that have not heard, felt, or have been led by the Holy Spirit.
