ALT What a wonderful month this has been. It has been a privilege this Black History Month to celebrate the contributions of Black STEM professionals. To close out the month, we're celebrating the legacy of Dr. Thomas W. Cole, Jr. "Dr. Thomas W. Cole, Jr., the founding president of Clark Atlanta University, earned his B.S. degree from Wiley College, Summa Cum Laude and his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the University of Chicago. He studied with Dr. P. E. Eaton and they were the first chemists to synthesize Cubane in 1964. The synthesis of Cubane, a highly strained cubic carbon-based molecule, was thought at one time to be impossible, much like the consolidation of Clark College and Atlanta University. However, Dr. Thomas W. Cole, Jr. achieved impossible feats throughout his administrative, academic, and scientific career."

ALT We’re celebrating Black History Month! We would like to recognize and celebrate the significant scientific research contributions of Dr. Kizzmekia S. Corbett-Helaire, PhD “Dr. Corbett uses her viral immunology expertise to propel novel vaccine development for pandemic preparedness, including mRNA-1273, a leading vaccine against SARS-CoV-2. Dr. Corbett's mRNA-1273 vaccine design was rapidly deployed to industry partner, Moderna, Inc., for Phase I clinical trial, which unprecedentedly began only 66 days from viral sequence release. Dr. Corbett's research saved millions of lives during the COVID-19 pandemic and serves as the foundation for today's cutting edge vaccine research.” #stem #blackhistory #blackhistorymonth
