A boy died Wednesday afternoon after going over a fourth-floor railing at Benjamin Franklin Senior High School in Highland Park, Los Angeles, California, United States. The school is at 820 North Avenue 54. It happened around 1 p.m. Firefighters took him to the hospital. He did not make it. Students and video circulating online show what happened just before. Two boys got into it inside a classroom. A teacher tried to stop it. One kid with a backpack kept hitting the other. The one getting hit ran out. The other followed him down the outdoor walkway. Then the first boy went over the railing. Kids who were there said the boy who died was quiet and did not usually fight back. One witness told reporters he saw the kid get hit hard, run out, and then go over the side. Some local reports said he may have been a senior, but police have not confirmed that. Police and school police are treating it as a death investigation. LAPD Officer Rosario Cervantes said they have not found evidence of foul play. They have not released the boy’s name or age.
