Happy #InternationalDayofCharity! As a registered non-profit organization, we rely on our supporters to make our programs happen. From helping local Peruvian women earn an income to outfitting spectacled bear researchers in the field, we could not do what we so without your help.

Bears in disguise?🥸🐻
@wildnetorg partner Spectacled Bear Conservation (@SpecBearPeru) works with communities to protect South America's only bear species, named for the facial markings around their eyes. They're extremely rare, charismatic, and most importantly: Actual bears.

@SpecBearPeru recently installed more than 200 camera traps across Machu Picchu, the first study of this scale conducted in the Peruvian high Andes mountain ecosystem. But the adventure isn’t over yet. Data will be used to identify high Andean bear density areas for conservation.
Oh pardon us, Russ. We didn’t realize you were already in here taking a bath. We’ll leave you to it, sir.
Since 2008 we’ve been dedicated to the research of the only species of bear in South America, what we call the spectacled bear.
By focusing on this umbrella species in Peru we’ve also been able to also protect other species and their habitat by purchasing land and engaging with the community.
Since we started, we’ve launched programs that benefit people and spread our conservation message around the world. It’s been an honor to live our lives dedicated to this wonderful animal.

Involving rural communities is crucial to promote the conservation of spectacled bear habitat! Tucto is just one of the communities in northern Peru where we have trained local women the art of making felted animals that are sold around the world. spectacled-bear-conservation…
