Engineer, Philosopher, Writer, and host of @RealAtheology. Ardent realist about everything except Theism and The Self. In my view, God and "I" are the problem.

Great thread, yet I take issue with saying Hume makes no historical claim. In Part I of Of Miracles, he sets the standard for rational miracle belief. In Part II, he looks at the record of human history and finds that no testimony has ever met it.
This meme is incredibly dumb, yet it gets posted all the time, presumably by people whoโ€™ve never bothered to read โ€œOn Miraclesโ€ directly and are getting it second-hand from bad apologists. It has nothing whatsoever to do with Humeโ€™s argument. A short thread. 1/๐Ÿงต

I remember thinking as a young kid that this Clayface scene was something special.
There's a commentary track that said something like "The Reason the show looked good was because Japan refused to cut corners on literally anything. They would air brush the frost on Mr. Freeze's helmet EVERY single frame. They went bankrupt right after"

Forty-one years on this earth today, and I am marveling at the strange, bright shelter of the life we have conjured together.

All but the worst of us agree that torturing children for fun wrongs them. Yet to wrong someone is to break a duty owed to them, and a duty owed to a person just is their right. So rights are not make-believe. They are the logical consequence of common-sense moral judgment.

If most Christians believe chiefly because they were indoctrinated, and that pattern is more expected on a naturalistic account of religion than on Christianity, then it counts as some evidence against Christianity.

Where do basic rights come from? Where does the number two come from? Where does a necessary God come from? The answer to each is "nowhere." What is necessary is not contingent. It does not come from anywhere.
Where do these rights come from?
