getty images spent years watermarking every photo on the internet.
sued stability AI for training on their library. demanded the AI companies pay up. called it theft.
filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy this week.
the AI companies didn't pay. they just... kept going and designers stopped buying stock photos. and the $500 licensing fees stopped making sense when midjourney exists. and the debt piled up.
a company whose entire business model was "we own the visual record of human history, pay us" just got outrun by a model that learned from that record and started giving it away for free.
The irony is that the watermark is still on every image in the archive.
even the ones nobody's licensing anymore.
Sad to see Bioware go, but at the same time I was expecting them to close their doors at some point.
I remember when the PS3 first came out in 2006 it was $600, which adjusted for inflation would be $1,014 in today's money.
I got mine on Xmas of 2009 when the slim model came out for at $300.
I can't imagine spending $1800 on a any piece of hardware nevermind a game console.
Xbox is reportedly planning for their next console to release in late 2028.
Microsoft is internally projecting that the console could cost consumers between $1,200 and $1,800, unless they decide to subsidize the cost.

I would like to wish @CalpainEqD a Happy Birthday today. I have made for him an artpiece depicting his very first science experiment. #MLP #MLPOC #mlpart #MLPArtist #Pony #brony #digitalart

When I made that artfight piece for CatytheCat, I also made a spooky one and saved it for the spooky month.
