The US men's national soccer team is being subjected to the same kind of legalized plunder that defines too many divorce proceedings in this country.
After grinding through qualifiers, earning their spot in the World Cup, and generating the massive FIFA payout that only the men's game can produce ($12.8 million in this case), the players are now forced to hand over a huge chunk of that money to the women's team under the "equal pay" collective bargaining agreement.
The women didn't play a single minute of those matches, didn't draw the crowds, didn't sell the tickets, and didn't create the revenue - yet they still get a cut of the men's prize money while the reverse transfer remains a fraction. Yes the women are more successful (having won the Women's World Cup several times) but the prize is much smaller. Why? It reflects differences in global interest, sponsorship, viewership and actual performance.
This is all under the guise of "parity" between "equivalent work." But in reality, it's more like subsidizing one program with the output of the other, just like the ex-spouse cashing checks from earnings she didn't generate.
"Equal pay" sounds noble until you realize it erases differences in market value, risk, audience draw, and results. It disincentivizes excellence on the men's side (why push harder if your windfall gets redistributed?) and removes pressure on the women's side to grow their own commercial appeal.
Like divorce settlements that trap high-earners in perpetual support roles, this policy treats men's soccer as a piggy bank for "fairness," not a business rewarding what fans and sponsors actually value.
USMNT's World Cup $12.8M payout will be shared with women's team after equal pay CBA trib.al/0WMIKWA

When I moved to America, one of the first things I noticed (and love so much) is how Americans are just *supportive*. For no other reason than they're happy for you to be out doing your best.
If you tell them you did something, achieved something, something went your way, they're GENUINELY excited for you.
They cheer for you. They show up for you. And they don't view YOUR success as something to try to take from you, but something that they should strive to share in.
It's the "rising tide lifts all boats" philosophy. I LOVE it about Americans.
I love Australia, it has so many great characteristics. But I HATE the Australian mentality that cuts down other people who are succeeding. It's like you all have to be the same shade of SUCK, otherwise the people around you get angry and envious. It's so common that we even have a name for it, "tall poppy syndrome."
As soon as one little poppy gets taller than the rest, it needs to be cut down to be the same again.
It is loser mentality. And it destroys your will to do better. I have hated it all my life. Not dealing with it any more is a blessing.
Anyway, all this to say - Americans are cool as shit and the hate they get is dumb and misplaced.
I love that you guys celebrate others. Don't ever change.
maybe deleting in the morning but america from an immigrant’s perspective. i came here 2 years ago.
i began actively disliking europeans since coming here. every attitude except the american attitude sucks. i had to stop walking around with noise cancellation turned on in case somebody drive-by complimented me on the street, because it happens so often, and i’d hate to be rude and to not respond. do you even know what kind of stares you get when you speak to a stranger on a european street?
everyone in america wants everyone else to succeed; in europe, everyone wants you to remain comfortably within the crab bucket. in europe i was told everyone on america was just fake nice. that’s giga cope. americans are smarter than you, europoor - americans understand that if you succeed, they succeed by proxy. you get nothing from poor, defeatist neighbors. if everyone’s successful and everyone’s generous, then everyone succeeds. this mindset is the only objectively correct mindset on earth - everyone else is wrong. everyone else thinks success is a finite resource , which is incorrect. if i succeed, then obviously all of my friends succeed, because i love them. i obviously love you, dear reader! you are on this platform like me, you think like me, you want humanity and civilization to persist forever like me, you live near me! i want you to do better than me! you doing better than me benefits me! if i do better than you, it will only benefit you too, because i love you, and want to share with you!
i want everyone to do better than me - it’s not a finite resource, afterall. if you’re better than me now, that’s great, that just means i have more to learn from you while we both shoot for the moon. this is just not the case anywhere else on earth and it’s too easy to take this mindset for granted, and that’s what i found makes America so unique.

Typical European behavior right here.
Instead of getting fired up to face the US at its best after one of the worst calls in history gets rightfully reversed, Belgium cries, plays victim, and tries to find a way to keep their opponent down over a garbage call.
This is exactly why the US continues to lead the world in innovation while Europe whines and regulates itself into irrelevance.
I’d be scared too, Belgium.
🇺🇸⚽
🚨⚠️ OFFICIAL: Belgian Federation statement on Folarin Balogun red card case, saying they are “astonished”.
“The Royal Belgian Football Association (RBFA) is astonished by FIFA's decision to declare suspended United States player Folarin Balogun eligible to play in the USA–Belgium match on Monday, 6 July at 5:00 p.m. (Seattle time).
FIFA bases its decision on Article 27 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code.
This provision states that the FIFA Disciplinary Committee may decide to suspend the enforcement of a previously imposed disciplinary sanction.
However, Article 66.4 of the same FIFA Disciplinary Code clearly provides that a red card (sending-off) automatically results in a suspension for the team's next match, as has been the case for all previous red cards issued during this FIFA World Cup.
Furthermore, and irrespective of the above, the decision is in direct contradiction with the provisions of the FIFA World Cup 2026 Competition Regulations, as set out in Article 10.5:
"If a player or team official is sent off as a result of a direct or indirect red card (second caution), they will automatically be suspended from their team's subsequent match. In addition, further sanctions may be imposed.”
The automatic nature of such a suspension was also explicitly reaffirmed in FIFA World Cup 2026 Circular No. 16, which was distributed to all participating member associations on 12 May 2026.
The same rule is reiterated at every FIFA World Cup 2026 Match Coordination Meeting prior to each match and is included in all FIFA World Cup 2026 workshop presentations.
❗️In order to safeguard the legitimate rights of all participating teams and to protect the fundamental principles of fair play in our sport, both at this FIFA World Cup and at future editions of the tournament, the RBFA is investigating all potential options.”

America turns 250 today.
Let me read back the resume.
We started by telling a king to pound sand, in writing.
By 1803 we bought half a continent from France for about four cents an acre.
We fought a war with ourselves and somehow stayed one country.
We strung a railroad across the entire thing.
We handed the world the lightbulb, the telephone, and the airplane in about thirty years flat.
Then a man named Willis Carrier invented air conditioning and made half the planet actually livable.
You are welcome, Texas. You are welcome, Dubai.
Twice the whole world caught fire, and twice we showed up and helped put it out.
We split the atom.
We put men on the moon in 1969.
Then we went back and hit golf balls up there, because why not.
We invented jazz, blues, rock and roll, and hip-hop, and the whole planet is still dancing to it.
We put a burger and fries on every corner of the earth.
We built rockets that fly themselves home and land standing straight up.
We flew a helicopter on Mars.
We launched a car into actual space and it is still out there cruising.
We also invented ranch dressing and somehow talked the entire world into putting it on pizza.
Priorities.
We even invented three of our own sports so we could win them.
Baseball, basketball, and football.
Real football, the kind with hands, because we named it and we are not taking corrections.
The rest of the planet can keep soccer, which is fine, we are hosting it in our backyard this summer anyway.
And yes, Canadian football exists, wider field, extra man, one fewer down, and we try very hard not to think about it.
Frankly it was generous of us to invent our own games.
If we put all that energy into soccer, nobody else would ever lift that trophy again.
We would win it so often they would just rename it the America’s Cup and hand us the keys.
You are welcome for the suspense.
And in 2026 we threw a birthday so big a German tourist live-tweeted our gas stations to 750,000 people.
Not every chapter was clean.
We argued, we stumbled, we fixed what we broke, and we kept building.
That is the whole trick.
Two hundred and fifty years in, and we are still the loudest, brightest, most improbable experiment on the map.
Not bad for a country that started as a strongly worded letter to a king.
Happy birthday, America.

It is amazing that @CaitlinClark22 who has brought so much publicity for the @WNBA has to take so much abuse from many of those that she has helped financially since her arrival .The physical pounding she takes is totally UNACCEPTABLE! espn.com/wnba/story/_/id/491…

Something miraculous is happening in the USA and the world thanks to the World Cup and the USA’s 250th.
I’m not quite sure yet what it is, I have to give it more thought.
I think it has something to do with the world realizing that managed decline is not necessary (with Trump’s America as the example), and I think it has something to do with more Americans not being afraid to be patriots about their nation and their culture.
It’s more than that though—I have to ponder.
Article coming when I figure it out. Any and all ideas welcome.

I’m glad we as a hobby can see through this paid for each tweet garbage. I know we’re skeptical and overly pessimistic in general but pushing back against this kind of BS is a good thing.

Even @Topps presentation assembler doesn't know how to properly spell "padparadscha". At this point it's just becoming a meme of itself. By the textbook definition, it's a perfectly appropriate 1/1. But probably best to scrap it because half the people that created the parallel don't even know what it is.

Great points by @JayBilas.
UNC is "tampering" with coaches under contract. The NCAA isn't busy creating policies to limit that conduct. But it's not OK for players under contract to communicate with third parties because they may benefit?
Schools complain about finances, but are on the hook to pay fired coaches tens of millions of dollars. No one is begging Congress to cap coach compensation. But compensation to athletes must be capped?
College sports "leaders" need to continue to be called out. For the "SAVE COLLEGE SPORTS" crowd, let's start talking about how much money those "leaders" are earning. Maybe their salaries should be capped, as well?
As @JayBilas correctly points out, there’s a lot of hypocrisy in college athletics right now.
It’s only when athletes begin to get paid that it’s necessary to have a federal law to “save college sports.”

We’re being told this country is broken beyond repair.
And then this happens.
An American Olympic gold medalist, bloodied and grinning, wrapped in the Stars and Stripes, after decades of waiting, sacrifice, and belief, reminding the world what it looks like when America rises again. 🇺🇸
Two kids on a quiet sidewalk, watching Artemis II tear through the sky, like history reaching forward and backward at once, reminding us we are still the nation that dares to go farther. 🚀
And an American Air Force colonel, shot down over enemy territory, alone in the mountains of Iran for 48 hours, hunted, wounded, waiting,
And America came for him anyway.
Through the dark.
Through the risk.
Through the fire.
Because we don’t leave our own.
Same year. Same country.
Not spin. Not noise.
This is real.
They can keep selling division.
They can keep feeding the noise.
But this?
This is different.
This is who we are when it matters.
Not perfect. Not polished.
But still capable of courage.
Still capable of wonder.
Still capable of loyalty.
The darkness is loud right now.
But the light?
The light doesn’t ask permission.
It just shows up.
GOD BLESS AMERICA 🇺🇸❤️
HAPPY EASTER 💜

Hey @NFL @NFLPA
If you cared about your fans, you'd stop exclusivity agreements.
Competition in this space is needed. Competition gives the consumer options in both price points and design.
Exclusivity allows companies to rest on their laurels and milk the cash cow.
WE ARE SO BACK. Topps and the @NFL have reunited for a long-term exclusive trading card partnership... We can’t wait to show you all what we’ve been cooking up.
Hey NCAA, us more about players that don’t show “loyalty,” don’t want to go through “adversity” and how player movement impacts stability. Tell us more about “tampering” and “poaching.” The Coaches Portal is ALWAYS open. Funny how silent coaches and administrators are about that.
BREAKING: NC State head basketball coach Will Wade is expected to leave for LSU, @PeteNakos and @JoeTipton report.

He was driving his Corvette 156 miles an hour down a residential street, hit a woman and she burned alive with her dog, screaming for help as her dog barked in agony. 3 years in prison
Why isn’t a DUI alone 5 years in prison? Everyone has access to Uber and Lyft now. Murder/Manslaughter should be life (80+ years) in prison. Would prevent so much crime
