This has been reshared a lot recently. Many #schoollibrarians are sharing stats which show that reading in their schools is not in decline-quite the reverse. The evidence is clear: having a librarian in school can build and embed a reading culture. Follow us to find out more.
⚠️Reading enjoyment has fallen across all ages.⚠️
The sharpest decline is among pupils aged 11-14 - from 40.4% in 2023 to 30.7% in 2024. As children transition to secondary school, their reading engagement dips - a trend that is worsening.

Hearing from @FloEshalomi MP who says she wouldn’t have passed her GCSES without access to the library. And now as a parent how important they continue to be. And a shout out to librarians as a first point of access to the service. #LibrariesChangeLives

I remember being told when bad things happen, look for the people who are on the ground making a difference. Who represent light in the darkness. This morning for me that is the Go Fund Me for Spellow Library in Liverpool - amazing (£43,000 & climbing fast) #wearemanytheyarefew

Knowing how important reading for pleasure is for raising achievement & mental health, can we ensure every child has access to a staffed school library from the moment they enter education to the moment they leave? Our poorest children are least likely to have access to one.

Our Y10s did not meet the brilliant @NonPratt when she was @patronofreading @Fortismere_Sch. But they love her little gem of a novella #Unboxed @BarringtonStoke. What will @addeyslibrary @KEHSlibrary @Oaks_LRC #ReadWithPride tomorrow?
