While allocation was announced in April, the AGM remains an important opportunity to hear updates on projects/district initiatives. We encourage irrigators to join & stay informed on what is ahead for the SMRID.

Did you know...sugar beets are only produced in two provinces, Alberta and Ontario. But, all the sugar beets grown in Ontario are shipped over the boarder to Michigan for refining. This means that the only source of domestic sugar is from Alberta, all refined in Taber.
Office closure - Victoria Day:
Please be advised SMRID offices will be closed on Monday May 18, for the Stat holiday. Regular office hours will resume on Tuesday May 19.

Great news for southern Alberta! 🎉
The MD of Taber has secured nearly $3 million in funding from the @YourAlberta to advance the final construction phases of the #horseflyregionalemergencyspillway project.
Reeve Miyanaga was pleased to receive this announcement from Minister @GrantHunterUCP3, alongside MLA Chelsae Petrovic and @md_of_pc Reeve Rick Lemire, who hosted today’s event.
This project is led through the Southern Regional Stormwater Drainage Committee, with partners: @StMaryIrrig, @CoaldaleAB, @TownofBowIsland, @TownofTaber, Village of Barnwell, @LethCounty, @Countyof40Mile, @CypressCounty, and the @medicinehatcity
Together, these investments strengthen flood protection, watershed resiliency, and long‑term water security across @CanadaCorridor.
