Mining is increasingly impacting orangutans, especially in Kalimantan, where Orangutan Land Trust supports the rescue of orangutans stranded in these devastated landscapes.
Please help us to help them!
We must ensure that mining across the world is conducted in a responsible way. @standmighty and @RainforestNORW look at how mining standards address biodiversity and deforestation β and where they fall short. mightyearth.org/article/biodβ¦

Not every mining standard is created equal, and automakers need to be aware of the strengths and shortcomings of various standards in order to continue to make progress on responsible sourcing, avoid due diligence fines, and protect themselves from risk.
Check out this analysis from @StandMighty and @RainforestNORW of the limitations of three existing mining standards @IRMA, @CopperMark /RMI and @tsminitiative. They took a look at how these three different standards work to avoid deforestation and minimize impacts of mining on critical ecosystems like rainforests.

Japanese traders must commit to stronger biomass sustainability policies. We call on Mitsubishi Corporation, Kansai Electric Power, Sumitomo Corporation and @mitsuiandco to ensure that no biomass imports harm natural forests or vulnerable communities.

Read more from Simard and Holt on the biomass industry in British Columbia here: vancouversun.com/opinion/op-β¦
Countries like Japan should phase out harmful subsidies that encourage biomass and lead to logging in places like British Columbia. Leaders worldwide have opportunities to βdrive true climate solutions that lie in protecting and restoring forests, not in cutting them down.β
BC must 1) clearly define waste so that whole trees are never used in pellet production and 2) ban the export of wood pellets. We must not allow the biomass industry to destroy any more biodiverse primary forests.
How can British Columbia save its forests from more harm at the hands of the wood pellet industry? Rachel Holt of Veridian Ecological Consulting and @DrSuzanneSimard of The Mother Tree Project tell us how.
