After 2,000 investments at Antler, these are the seven harsh truths I'd want every founder to hear before they start:
1. Nobody hands you customers, hires or investors. You have to go and win each one.
2. "I'll fail and learn from it" is an expensive plan. A job teaches you the same lessons on someone else's money.
3. The first two to three years take nearly all your waking hours. When I co-founded Zalora, and again with Antler, I told friends and family I'd be off the grid.
4. Until you've tried to sell it, you don't know if anyone wants it. Bill Gates and Paul Allen pitched their first product before they'd written a line of it.
5. Some very talented teams end up in trouble because both founders are great engineers and neither can sell.
6. You will hit walls, usually more than once. SpaceX lost three rockets before its first successful launch.
7. Most startups fail for ordinary reasons: the wrong team, the wrong business model, or poor management.
The upside is that none of this is fixed. You can get better at every item on this list.
Which one did you learn the hard way?

I don’t invest in Africa because I’m African.
I invest in Africa because I'm a capitalist.
And Africa is the last great capitalist opportunity.
I’m not trying to “save” the continent. I’m investing to make money.

Every Monday, I’ll be sharing opportunities I find interesting.
Grants, scholarships, fellowships, and anything else worth applying for.
How can you support?
Apply to whatever catches your interest, and all I ask is that you RT so someone else can see it and benefit too.
Be audacious this week. Take what belongs to Caesar and his brother-in-law. Gather everything that glitters. If it’s not gold, turn it into scrap.
No opportunity is too big. No application is beneath you.
Happy new week. Go get yours! 🚀

Africa doesn’t have a deal flow problem. The bigger question is what we choose to fund and what those investments ultimately produce.
Two weeks ago, I joined the Ajim Summit during the 81st @UN General Assembly (UNGA) for a conversation on deal flow and where capital is moving across Africa’s technology ecosystem.
@Velocityhq_, we think about that through the lens of impact. Not simply how much capital is deployed or how quickly a company scales, but what that growth unlocks: jobs, greater access, stronger businesses and more productive economies.
The best technology investments should solve real problems and contribute to the priorities of the markets they serve. That connection between capital, innovation and economic outcomes is where I believe the opportunity gets especially interesting.
Thank you to @euniceajim and the @AjimCapital team for bringing together investors, founders and allocators willing to get specific about what it will take to move more capital.
The opportunity is there. The work is making sure the capital creates something that lasts.

Nigeria wants more critical data stored at home. But as the CBN tightens localisation requirements for financial institutions and the government builds a broader cloud framework, a bigger question is emerging: can multiple regulators enforce data sovereignty without creating a costly compliance maze?
The issue is not simply localisation. It is about who regulates what, where their mandates overlap, and how businesses navigate requirements covering payment data, cloud infrastructure, backups and disaster recovery.
We spoke with technology policy and legal experts about where the CBN’s sector-specific mandate meets NITDA’s broader technology and cloud responsibilities — and why coordination may matter as much as localisation itself.
We explore the implications in this analysis :
