A rather lovely little story has emerged from the Vatican meeting marking ten years since Amoris Laetitia, and it offers an interesting glimpse of Pope Leo XIV. According to an account of the opening day's spiritual retreat, Cardinal Pablo Virgilio David, known as Cardinal Ambo, had withdrawn from the crowd surrounding the Pope and was quietly writing down his reflections when someone approached to ask how he was, it was Pope Leo himself!
After a warm embrace and a brief conversation, the Holy Father simply wished him well and moved on. The significance of this small encounter lies precisely in its ordinariness. Cardinal David had not sought an audience or attempted to attract the Pope's attention. The Pope had noticed someone sitting alone and taken the initiative to approach him. We rightly attach enormous importance to what a Pope teaches, the decisions he makes and the direction in which he leads the Church. But the Petrine ministry is also a profoundly personal exercise of pastoral responsibility.
Christ's command to Peter was not simply to govern His sheep, but to feed them. A Pope who notices an individual amid a gathering of Church leaders offers a modest but rather beautiful illustration of that responsibility. It tells us nothing definitive about the theological questions being discussed in Rome, but it may tell us something about the man entrusted with guiding those discussions and perhaps that is worth noticing too.

Guess who’s back!
The school year officially begins next Tuesday, which means it’s especially important to slow down and pay attention in school zones.
Slow down, stay alert, and watch for students, crossing guards, buses, and families getting back into their routines.
A few extra seconds can make a big difference. Help keep our kids and school zones safe.

Ground has been broken on the new Fancsy Family Hospital, one of the largest public health care infrastructure projects in this region's history, and at the helm will be @WRHospital and CEO Kristin Kennedy, a WECDSB alumnus. We recently took Kristin on a tour of the three schools she attended, where she reminisced about some of her fondest memories and reflected on how Catholic education shaped the person she has become.
