Nice to see our PM sticking to Australian tradition and not wearing poppies days out from Remembrance Day.
“Per modum suffragii” keeps getting trotted out but it doesn’t really explain how indulgences work for the dead. Is it just a prayer on behalf of the dead?
Replying to @AngAesthetics
1/4 Simon Fish’s argument rests on a flawed premise: that the Pope has judicial power over purgatory.
Catholic dogma teaches the Pope has NO jurisdiction over the dead. Indulgences for souls are applied strictly per modum suffragii (by way of intercessory prayer to God).
Not really true any more.

This is Easter Day. Nobody but the weirdest, most niche, Anglicans attending a hyper modern church know the modern version of the Lord’s Prayer. It the most toxic thing for mission the Church has yet tried. It tells everyone not in the club “you are not welcome here”.

How did @nswpolice go from community based law encorcement to this intimidating paramilitary force.
Not the same organisation I joined.
Tannhäuser is my favourite opera. Despite all the humans being sinners (Elisabeth even conflates Mary and God in her Hörselberg prayer and the Pope condemns Heinrich withal), God finally grants his grace to Heinrich at Elisabeth’s saintly intercession before his throne.
Tannhäuser is not, then, a purely Protestant or a purely Roman opera (nor blasphemous, as some have said). The essence of faith, being repentence, turning away from sin and trust in God, however small, is present in Tannhäuser, while he is beset with despair.
Australia Post has issued new stamps. They are horrible and infantile. How are they suitable for businesses and anyone sending serious correspondence?
Black, white and red (or black and white) are the best colours for a clerk.
It was very good to be in Assisi for the 40th International Meeting for Peace yesterday. In the Papal Basilica of St Francis, we gathered for an ecumenical service of Christian prayer for peace in our world.
Then we joined other faith leaders and representatives for the closing ceremony, to renew our commitment to working together for peace. In a powerful video address, Pope Leo XIV urged us to continue to live ‘the spirit of Assisi’ that began with the first meeting convened 40 years ago by Pope John Paul II.
In the name of Jesus Christ the Prince of Peace, I join with the Pope in praying that we would each be ‘unarmed instruments of the Lord’s peace.’
Watches can be worn with evening dress. Concerns about appearing rude because one is mindful of the time are ridiculous.
Massively looking forward to the next Reform manifesto putting re-establishment and re-endowment front and centre.
May I present to you some essential reading.

Very important that Members of the Senedd have at least *some* Welsh political history lessons as part of their induction.
Modern TVs are too complicated. So many pointless apps and hubs and screens. I just want a TV that flicks through channels with numbers on the remote ... maybe with the option to access apps like iview or YouTube if needed.
Well isn’t it pretty common for law graduates and law students at university to be described as “lawyers”? Of course in England, the phrase is not protected apparently.
There’s something amusing about the continual stream of negative commentary about Oxford by students. Who are these people and where are they? I never met anyone at Cambridge who complained so much.

If urban churches got the same proportion of the population attending as rural churches, they'd have to build stadiums in every town! In the service I took last Christmas there was over 50% of the village population in the pews (plus some who were prevented by health issues).
