Oct 28 (Reuters) - Qatari mediators presented Iran with a new draft deal on Sunday to end the US-Israeli war on the country, which Tehran is considering and expected to send a response to by the end of the week, an official briefed on the negotiations said on Wednesday. There were concerns ahead of Sunday's meeting in Tehran that Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu could resume attacks on the Islamic Republic this week, the official added.

By fleeing for the United States, Flávio Bolsonaro has escaped prison -- and probably ceded the Bolsonaro family's role as the leaders of the Brazilian conservative movement.

Update: Can confirm that Flavio fleeing to US, per sources to @Reuters Details unclear
Brazil's wild election has just gotten a bit wilder. Flavio seems to have disappeared off the face of the Earth. One close ally told @Reuters his phone is going to voicemail. Argentina inspected a private jet that came in from Brazil, but found nothing reuters.com/world/americas/b…

Deservedly scathing op-ed by the NYT: “If Democrats retake both houses of Congress, and more state governments than they now control, it will tell the world that Mr. Trump does not represent most Americans. It will demonstrate that a country that starts to slide toward autocracy can move back to normalcy, as happened in Hungary this spring. Most important, it will create a desperately needed check on Mr. Trump during his final two years in office. … In a 21-month span, he has done more harm to democracy and the rule of law than any other president in the modern era and perhaps longer than that. He has broken his oath to defend the Constitution by trying to rewrite it on his own. He has refused to honor Congress’s power of the purse and misused national security laws for political ends. He has defied federal court orders on Medicaid funding, deportation orders and more. He has dismantled the Justice Department’s legacy as an impartial enforcer of federal law, turning it into an instrument of retribution against his adversaries while canceling investigations into his allies. He has appointed inept sycophants to oversee crucial government functions, including law enforcement, national defense and public health. He has sought to disenfranchise large numbers of voters, claiming fraud that cannot be found, and championed an extreme new approach to partisan gerrymandering. He has physically besmirched the White House by demolishing the East Wing and financing a garish renovation with donations from wealthy allies.” nytimes.com/2026/10/27/opini…

Lula wins, and it wasn’t particularly close — 3.5% or more than 4 million votes. It’s an epic comeback and we will need time to fully understand it. But one thing is clear — the extension in voting hours was not the difference maker in this race.

Great stuff from @shaneharris: "Armed with information that the U.S. provides, Ukraine’s military has launched strikes deep inside Russia. And U.S. spy satellites provide early warning about incoming missiles and drones. Among U.S. personnel on the ground, 'the CIA is in the lead,' a retired senior officer who travels frequently to Ukraine told me. If anything, the Ukrainians, with the CIA’s help, have gotten too good at hurting Russia for Trump’s taste." theatlantic.com/national-sec…
