New study 📖
We assessed the relationship between injuries and growth and maturation across multiple clubs in CAS 🏴⚽️
🤕Players at 90% and 100% of %PAH at most risk of injury
📈 Growth rate >10cm/yr increases injury risk
These two 🚩can help identify injury risk in players
Great to get the 2nd study of my PhD published today 🏴⚽️.
What we found:
U14 age group has the highest injury incidence and burden rates
Injuries in matches are far more severe than training
Muscle tears and sprains most common injury

A longitudinal study of 47 players at a top Spanish academy used bone-age data to classify biological maturation, with career outcomes tracked 15 years later.
Late maturers reached professional football at 30.8% vs. 5.6% for early maturers. Every player from the cohort competing in a top 5 European league at follow-up belonged to the late-maturing group.
Biological maturation and relative age effect research are measuring the same selection error from different angles: academy and international selection systematically favors the physically advanced, at the cost of long-term development potential.

DUNFERMLINE ATHLETIC, SCOTTISH CUP FINALISTS!!!!
The Pars defeat the Bairns on penalties and progress to the Scottish Cup Final. GET IN THEREEEEE
It was great to kick-off our biobanding festivals last month. This initiative is a brilliant way to help clubs identify and develop all talent on an individual basis matching them physically against evenly matched peers 🏴⚽️
Club Academy Scotland ran the largest bio-banding festival in youth football last month.
Bio-banding sees late maturers play against younger players that are a closer physical match, while early maturing players are matched with older players.

It was great to kick off our Biobanding festivals last month which will hopefully be the first of many throughout the season. Amazing to see how players adapt and compete against physically similar matched peers giving them the opportunity to showcase their abilities 🏴⚽️

Great to see strong young players showcasing a wide range of movement skills and weight lifting abilities 💪🏻
Amazing trip away with the men’s U15 squad 🏴 in the UEFA development tournament in Cyprus. Always great to watch how our players compare against other nations, competing against Hungary 🇭🇺, Cyprus 🇨🇾 and Finland 🇫🇮.
Terrific growth and maturation sharing event held at @WestHam by David Johnson. Their work in the field is very inspiring. Combined with other top presentations by @phd_sean on skeletal age assessments and @Xabi_b94 on his work at @AthleticClub #maturation #football

It’s great to see the impact our research has had on the talent identification and development pathways in CAS. Hopefully this paves the way for more informed decision making on these processes to strengthen our game long term 🏴⚽️
It was great to work on this project identifying the impact of relative age and maturation on Club Academy Scotland. Huge shout out to @phd_sean @markleslie88 @statman_sean and @DebbiePalmerOLY @UKCCIIS bath.ac.uk/announcements/uni…
