Illinois voters say high taxes are killing them, yet they keep reelecting the same politicians.
What keeps this cycle alive?
Gerrymandered maps, the system, the voters, or all of the above?
Illinois is affordable?
Under the guy who:
⛽ Hiked the gas tax to 48.3¢/gal, costing drivers $143 more a year
📊 Pushed 49 new taxes and fees
🏡 Let property taxes soar — now 2nd highest in the U.S.
💰 Exploded state spending by 32%
🏆 Gave Illinois the highest overall tax burden in the country
If that’s “affordable,” @cljmitchell …what does expensive look like? 🧐

As a data scientist for the Cubs, you'd help build and maintain models and tools that support our decision making in any/all spaces of baseball operations (hitting, pitching, player development, game strategy, pro-acquisition, amateur, international, etc).

If Marsee can continue to hit the ball hard in addition to his supreme plate discipline, you might (Mar)see him on the Marlins for a long time

The Marlins traded Jesus Sanchez and Jakob Marsee got his shot.
Through his first 5 games, Marsee hit a home run, 3 doubles, a triple, walked as much as he struck out and has a .500 BA.
He hit 14 HR and stole 47(!) bases in 96 Triple-A games.

I am going to keep saying this until people get it. The enormous Billion$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ going to schools each year includes huge $$$$$ in fraud and waste, and huge amounts for children of the undocumented.
On July 16th 1969:
- Min. wage U.S. $1.60/hour.
- Avg. home cost in U.S.: ~$15,000.
- Gas $0.35 per gal.
- the first commercially successful mass-produced calculator widely available in the West, the Sharp QT-8D was not yet available at the price $395 USD ($2,800).

Wealth taxes have never worked anywhere - not in an age of global capital and movement.
Gandhi once said the true measure of any society can be found in how it treats its most vulnerable members. It’s a nice sentiment.
But the true measure of a country’s prospects is actually found in how it treats its WEALTHY.
Every nation that was successful in increasing economic growth and prosperity for its people did so by attracting the wealthy (FDI) and incentivizing entrepreneurs. There’s no other way. This is the necessary, rate-limiting step.
(Btw: China and Russia are purging their problematic billionaires and oligarchs as we speak)
Hope the UK doesn’t go down the path of Norway which imposes a broad wealth tax that even includes unrealized gains (!!!)

In most places, the majority of property taxes go to schools. But birth rates have tanked for many yrs, enrollments tanked, while schools get more and more $.
In Chicago, enrollment ⬇️by 70,000+, but budget ⬆️to $10Billion--for only 325,000 students.
And test scores tank.

Where is the humor in out of control crime?
