Hi @greateranglia do you own/licence out the Cambridge North car park? If so, your provider is trying to charge £20 despite payment evidence…for their administration fee. Case Ref:   230057. Am keen to know if that’s acceptable practice in your contract?

Dear @MartinCallanan - it’s not cheaper insulation, but see link on how to halve the cost of halving home energy bills knaufinsulation.co.uk/media/…

🏠 The UK has 29 million homes 🏠 These homes account for 16% of the UK’s carbon dioxide emissions. We’re calling on Government to make it easier for people to make their homes greener by reducing emissions. Share this post to spread the word!

👀 Curious whether this (if confirmed) also means abandonment of the Chancellor’s goal to reduce total UK energy demand by 15% by 2030. The taskforce was a collection of serious figures from across commercial and finance sectors to advise on that goal. bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-6…

Will the UK’s new home energy-performance standard offer certainty or a lottery? Read the latest blog from @Stevenheath8, Technical Director, to find out more: knaufinsulation.co.uk/media/…

Most homes need 6-8kW on a cold day. The average heat pump size is 10kW. The cost of oversizing is: Financial: £1,381 (NB this is at 0% VAT) Physical: the outside unit is twice as big Ongoing: the heat pump will cycle and cost more to run 👇 theheatinghub.co.uk/how-we-w…

Really great short thread. An excellent argument for policy that enables companies to figure out what consumers actually want, rather than what would be handy for achieving a modelled outcome.
It's fascinating how many of the big net zero policy challenges are really challenges of service design. 🧵

So, TL;DR on retrofit: 1. align incentives 2. easy quality assurance AFTER retrofit measures to drive up standards and improve consumer confidence 3. local planning 4. better controls Job done.

A ‘wide ranging review’ of the UK Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) is to kick off imminently. Much needed, but what needs to happen? First up – accept a single core principle: we now live in a ‘sensed world’. Hear more from @Stevenheath8 in our blog: orlo.uk/NAdL3

keen to know how study controlled for non-mains gas heating. Relatively E, F, G have higher lpg, oil and wood burner use. Can control for lpg / oil (no smart gas reading). Did study? And how control for log burner confounding factor?
Replying to @ACJSissons
Yes - assumed it was all energy use not just use for heating but agree, v hard to draw conclusions without further info on methodology

Heat loss assessment better than ‘dreadful’ EPC metrics for low carbon transition, says former government advisor  dlvr.it/SjSmR5 #ukhousing

EPCs were bad enough when they were just a poorly designed consumer label traffic light system, but now we have government grants, mortgage rates and landlord regulation based on them they need urgent reform.
We've written to UK and Scottish Ministers today to offer advice on improvements to the rating metrics used on domestic Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs). EPC ratings are an important policy tool for reducing emissions, but they're not fit for purpose theccc.org.uk/publication/le…

🔌POWER GRIDS🔌 Arguably the most important & underdiscussed issue in the pursuit for net zero. The grid is creaking. It cld trigger blackouts & even prevent net zero. It’s a v big deal! But let’s begin our story with something else. A bit of history. The first power station… 🧵

This is Richard's response to a particular question from @TomCollinsBosch's helpful thread on challenges for heat electrification. I'd recommend you read both all of Tom's thread and Richards, which are pleasantly pleasant compared to much of the H2/HP debate. BUT! /1

On network capacity, we've known for years that under decarbonisation capacity needs to increase and it needs investment. Innovation can limit costs (see @gridcustomersuk for SW proposed capacity increase but charge reduction). But much more copper needed. teapawt.net/TomCollinsBosch/status…

Planes, trains, automobiles... and everything else. There's a lot of people out there who want to convince you hydrogen is the fuel of the future. But how much of this is realistic? And how much is just hype? I tried to get to the bottom of it news.sky.com/story/the-futur…

Really like this, especially the cheap 'block' of energy; it's very easy to comprehend and can be baked into Smart Meters.
The government is to review the Energy Price Guarantee by April next year. Here are some hot* thoughts on how to redesign the policy...🧵 *Actually re-heated from when we were debating this policy 6 weeks or so ago
