On February 2, 1977, Ian Turnbull set an NHL record in a victory over the Detroit Red Wings, becoming the first defenceman to score 5 goals in a single game; a record that still stands alone today. On November 22nd 2008, Maple Leafs Legend Wendel Clark had his number raised to the rafters of Scotiabank Arena. 1985 was the first NHL Entry Draft ever held in Toronto, and for the first time, the Maple Leafs held the number one overall pick. On draft day, there were a few players who were projected as possible top picks, but the Leafs opted to select a defenseman from the Saskatoon Blades named Wendel Clark. @StorageMart

On February 20, 1999, the Toronto Maple Leafs opened Scotiabank Arena (then Air Canada Centre) with a win over the Montreal Canadiens. Todd Warriner scored the first goal, with assists from Danny Markov and Derek King. Tie Domi and Shayne Corson earned the first two fighting majors, and Mats Sundin was named first star.
