Today, the 25th of October 2026, the Southern African Development Community joins the Government and the people of the Republic of Zimbabwe to commemorate the SADC Anti-Sanctions Day, under the theme Leveraging Regional Integration and Global Partnerships for Economic Transformation Beyond Illegal Sanctions.
Today, our Regional Economic Community sends one message to the world: we seek the complete and unconditional lifting of sanctions on our sister nation, the Republic of Zimbabwe.
This year’s commemoration is especially important as we are increasingly aware of the global geopolitical and economic challenges of recent years and their significant effects on our national and regional economies. The sanctions imposed on the Republic of Zimbabwe therefore create an additional burden for its people amid an already challenging continental and international environment
We therefore appreciate the theme guiding this year’s commemoration of SADC Anti-Sanctions Day, which underscores the need to transform the global approach to the current sanctions against Zimbabwe and fully liberate the country and its people, enabling them to achieve their rightful socio-economic fulfilment.

Unfortunately, the townships of Cape Town are also given the same treatment by the DA. This is the service delivery that the people of Soweto, Alexandra, Diepsloot in Johannesburg would be subjected to while the money goes to cutting grass in the suburbs.
Malapane Road in Mamelodi East was full of rocks, damaging vehicles and making daily travel difficult. After Ward 10 residents asked for help, we stepped in and fixed the gravel road. 🚧💙
This is what’s possible when communities’ concerns are met with practical action, at a fraction of the cost of a conventional government process.

We have officially opened the Alexandra Automotive Hub. For generations, Alex has kept Johannesburg moving. Yet for too long, these skills lived on the pavement, in the backyard and under a tree. This Hub begins to change that.
Developed by the Johannesburg Development Agency, with the Automotive Industry Development Centre as anchor tenant, the Hub offers workshops, wash bays and shared facilities, together with training, accreditation, business support and links to major industry players. Established businesses will mentor emerging operators, and the programme is open to women, young people and persons living with disabilities.
This is not just a building. It is a ladder. A mechanic who enters as an informal operator should leave as a registered, certified business that can service a fleet, bid for a tender or supply a dealership.

[WATCH Q&A] MAYORAL CANDIDATES: OFFICIALS WILL DECIDE
We are not going to announce Mayoral candidates now, we are in the field and busy campaigning very hard. We have told South Africans who are the people we will be looking at post the elections as mayoral candidates. What we did not do is put a single candidate to the people. There is nothing wrong with people being ambitious but it starts with winning. The final decision will be taken by the officials no one else.
