In Azerbaijan right now and went to see Neftchi v Saba the other night. Proper Ultras. No booing their team. No leaving early. No causing trouble. Just sang their hearts out, backing their team from the first minute to the last. Full respect to those lads.

Now that's a look I've had more than a few times in my life...

Just returned from the international stadium in Hanoi where I watched the home side lose on penalties in the first round of the cup. Hanoi FC manager, Harry Kewell, looked pretty glum at the end. Pretty scrappy game - 8 yellows and 3 players stretchered off. League 1 standard at best, I reckon.

Living it up here in Hanoi, where I've been reduced to eating the world's largest pot noodle by way of the world's tiniest teaspoon. #travelling #backpackers

The news about Ebsfleet United FC should be a wake up call to all non league fans. So when you turn up at that first game of the new season this weekend, truly try and appreciate what you have. Win, lose or draw, take it all in - the average quality of the football, the inane shouts from your fellow fans, the crapness of the food. There is a preciousness to it all. #DagenhamRedbridge #EbbsfleetUnited #nonleaguetwitter

Now that my latest novel is with the editor, I've been able to get back to reading. Have to say, Tune In - All These Years by Mark Lewisohn is just wonderful. Hands down the best history of the Beatles I've yet read. #TheBeatles #liverpool
