"Sell United and f*k off home" sing MUFC fans, the only good thing about the club right now. And it's right. The Glazers have made their money many times over for 21 years. Fans never wanted it and that takeover should never have been allowed. Do the right thing: sell up and go.

I’m sick of United being everybody else’s punchbag, sick of our name justifying even greater elation when rivals beat the club I love. How the mighty have fallen. And that performance was an affront to the name of Manchester United. For @TheAthleticFC nytimes.com/athletic/7714272…

It doesn’t matter who is linked with becoming Manchester United manager, because whatever the name (and most of those in circulation have previously already been ruled out), they are set up to fail. The parasitic Glazer ownership has bled and broken the club, putting a financial noose around it. In 2024, Sir Jim Ratcliffe talked a big game about a “three-year plan” to rival and outdo Manchester City and Liverpool. But the decision-making under INEOS’ charge of football operations has not just been woeful, but costly too. There is zero accountability for expensive mistake after expensive mistake. There is still no clear direction on club identity, including style of play, which leads to profiling the right signings and manager. That was a major promise made by Ratcliffe, which hasn’t been kept. To borrow his own words: “There have been a whole series of coaches, some of which were very good. And none of them were successful, or survived for very long. The only conclusion you can draw is that the environment in which they were working didn’t work.” It still doesn’t. It never will as long as the people who own and run the club betray Manchester United and what is required to be successful in the modern era. You can harp on about structure, vision, and sell fanciful projects, but you will never have the right operation with the wrong people.

People saying it’s Manchester United’s worst defeat in the Champions League since the 4-0 loss at Camp Nou in 1994. I was there for that and knew something was up when I saw Peter Schmeichel having a coffee in the press room an hour before kick-off. The 4-0 was bad but there were excuses, the 3+2 rule, Schmeichel sacrificed, and the quality of Barcelona – Romario, Stoichkov, Koeman, Guardiola. United's 4-1 loss to Como is worse. No excuses. No energy. Just a terrible performance, bordering on the spineless, summing up all the lack of leadership and responsibility-taking at the club. So much wrong about the club, from the Glazers with their debt, to the board and naïve recruitment. The team crying out for full-backs and a back-up striker and splurging money on midfielders, including a reserve from Chelsea and a player in Tielemans whose best years are behind him, who needs legs around him and whose main attraction was arguably his release clause. The dysfunctional, divided nature of the United family absolutely summed up by Bruno Fernandes during and after the game. A captain who failed to raise his own game or rally his players. A supposed leader who has now questioned his manager’s tactics. Michael Carrick's tactics and changes can certainly be questioned. He may eventually pay the price for the shambles in Como. It's cheaper than shipping out the under-performing players. But Carrick is not the real problem. He doubtless sees players who lack his passion for the shirt. He could be forgiven for looking at Wilcox and Berrada and thinking how badly he was let down in the summer transfer window. And he's on the brink. Manchester United may be ousting the one individual who cares most about the team and the club. Which sums up the total mess they are in. #MUFC

Vincent (Vinnie) Peter Jones, you stand accused of conspiracy to distract, beguile and entertain the unsuspecting persons of the British and global public, pre-meditatedly and with malice aforethought, by means of the relating of anecdotes designed to be “humorous”, “entertaining” and “emotionally revealing”, but really with the aim of distracting them from their productive labour and injecting undeserved joy into their humdrum lives, on the date of August 14 2026, at your farm-estate in the south of England, in concert with the infamous podcast host and self-described “documentary genius”, Louis Theroux, aka “Mr. Jiggle.” The Crown will seek to prove that you did this quite knowingly and cynically, under the guise of promoting your Netflix series The Gentleman. How do you plead? Watch the Louis Theroux Podcast on Spotify or listen wherever you get yours.

Today marks three years since football lost a global icon. How lucky we were to have Sir Bobby Charlton as the consummate ambassador for Manchester United, England and the sport we love. Easy to admire. Impossible to forget. Eternal in our hearts ❤️
