4/5 The Orleanists are led by Duc d'Orléans, also known as Philippe Egalité. He changed his name in support of the revolution, despite being the King's cousin. The Orleanists are liberal nobles, who favour the constitutional monarchy and civil rights.

3/5 The Girondins are the progressive wing of the Moderates, led by Madame Roland, who influences bourgeois intellectuals from her salon. The Girondins would ideally want a republic, but currently support the constitutional monarchy to achieve social change.

2/5 The Feuillants are the core group of the Moderates led by the Marquis de Lafayette, the hero of the American Revolution. Centrists in every sense of the word, they are the defenders of the peace, and the fulcrum on which French politics is balanced.

4/5 And finally the Cordeliers. The radical anarchist wing of the Jacobins. They are led by Jacques Hébert, the writer of the notorious journal 'Le Père Duchene". Loud, crude, and bloodthirsty, they give voice to the anger of the people.

3/5 The Indulgents are the moderate Jacobins, led by the fiery Georges Danton. They value personal liberty to the point of hedonism. They are the more pragmatic group among the Jacobins, and are occasionally willing to make compromises.

2/5 The Montagnards are the core group of the Jacobins, led by Maximilien Robespierre, the Incorruptible. They fight relentlessly to create their republic of virtue, in which all citizens are equal.
