Thirteen days since the floods in Rasuwa. We are still grieving, holding on to hope that the close ones we lost might somehow find their way back to us. Like everyone else, on the 26th August I was following the news. I messaged my friend @kunalsehgal92 at CNN in Hong Kong, and asked whether he could help bring this disaster to a global audience. He turned the question back to me: could I help report it from the ground? This isn't what I do. It's not my profession, and I said as much. Before I could finish saying no, Kunal had already sent the first team flying in, and suddenly I was helping them find their footing in Nepal. Later that day, @SugamCNN woke up in Atlanta, and by then it was clear to all of us that this was no ordinary disaster; it needed deeper reporting. He called to tell me that @AC360 was coming to Kathmandu, and that I would be producing him locally. I wasn't ready for it. It was nowhere near my area of expertise. But they trusted me with it anyway, and I will always be grateful. It was a privilege I never expected to work alongside @Andersoncooper, to help produce his coverage from Kathmandu. None of it was familiar ground for me. What carried me through was the belief that this story deserved to be told, and the generosity of the people who believed I could help tell it. Thank you to @CNN, to brothers @SugamCNN, @kunalsehgal92 for placing that trust in me, and to everyone at home who supported with the logistics, interviews, and everything. CNN sent three teams to Nepal and stayed with this story for more than a week. Their work has been extraordinary and deeply impactful. Watch the full story with Anderson Cooper on Nepal tomorrow morning, 7:45 AM Nepal time. What I witnessed travelling from Galchhi to Rasuwa returns to me every single day. I keep asking myself how we protect our civilization and cities from disasters like this one. My deepest condolences to everyone who lost someone to the floods.🙏🏽
