Château du jour - Château de Rocamadour and just below; Cité Réligieuse, a complex of chapels and churches built into the rock. #castlehunter #castle #rocamadour @castlehunteruk
This is timely as the Avignon Papacy has recently been in the news. The walled city of Avignon, between 1309 to 1376 seven popes resided here rather than Rome, at the time it was within the Kingdom of Arles, part of the Holy Roman Empire. @castlehunteruk #castlehunting #avignon
Not quite a Castle but still as impressive, some Roman infrastructure to help with plumbing in Nimes, Pont du Gard, built circa 40-60 AD and in use for about 450 years. @castlehunteruk #castle #castlehunting #pontdugard

A fine morning at Kolossi Castle, western Lemesos. Built circa 1210 by the Order of St John, following the loss of Acre in 1291, it served as HQ for the Order. In 1306 ownership passed to the Order of the Knights Templar.

A days metal-detecting near Loughborough has produced a wealth of military items, in amongst the musket balls a few items from The Staffordshire Yeomanry (Queen's Own Royal Regiment) and The Lincolnshire Regt, all probably pre-WW1. @RoyalYeomanry @MuseumRar
