During @TMFoundation_ inaugural Africa Peace & Security Dialogue, speakers, including President Mbeki, expressed deep concern about the worrying situation in 🌍 & the declining effectiveness of @_AfricanUnion in responding. This👇🏽 🔥 report explains why & how it can change.
📢HOT 🔥 🔥 🔥 from the press: Our new research report, undertaken over the past one year, is captioned as 'Memo to the New AU Commission from the Roaring Guns on AU's First Decade of Silencing the Guns'. It puts a spotlight on the peace and security trajectory of the continent during the ten year since launch of #STGs, the scale, nature of and factors that account for the dire #peace & #security situation and how & why there is a need for a fundamental rethink of the failed business-as-usual approach of the #AU. Read and debate on how the AU can reset the approach to peace and security through a new agenda for peace and security in Africa under a new AU Commission leadership.

If there is one conversation that you should listen to on Africa and the reform of multilateralism and on #TheSummitOfTheFuture, the exchange with Prof @tmurithi12 should be one of them. Was such a joy recording this for The Pan-Africanist, @africa_amani's podcast.
Following the launch of the report of the Joint Namibia-Amani Africa High-Level Panel and ahead of the Summit of the Future, the latest edition of the Pan-Africanist hosted Prof Tim Murithi to reflect on the key themes of the Report and on the Summit. 👉afripods.click-social-card.t…

Sober analysis from @africa_amani on the 20th year of the African Union Peace and Security Council. Indeed, it’s hard to think of a time when the peace and security priorities were as urgent or complex.
Today 25 May marks the 20th year of the remarkable journey of the Peace & Security Council of the @_AfricanUnion towards the realization of pax Africana. As the security situation on the continent goes ‘from the frying pan to the fire’ including in #Sudan where the #PSC invested much of its diplomatic time and efforts since its launch in 2004, this anniversary commentary notes that questions abound on whether the continental body is on a losing streak in recent years in its fight for peace and security.👉 amaniafrica-et.org/psc-marks…

Can famine in #Sudan be prevented? Yes.
But we need the militaries on all sides to give us humanitarian access.
It's the trajectory of the war and the commanders on the ground who are blocking the access we desperately need.

Martin Griffiths, the U.N.'s top humanitarian official, says this is one of the worst years for humanitarian crises. He will be stepping down soon and joined @NickSchifrin to discuss his 50-year career in humanitarian and conflict work.
