Beautiful day at the #wellsliteraryfestival - Really enjoyed the poetry readings and it was fun to announce the short story winners and so hard to judge. Such a great variety and quality of stories.

Don’t buy this house, they said. It’s haunted.
She bought it anyway & on the first night, she had a visitor.
A shadowy apparition. ‘Welcome to your new home.’
She thanked her.
‘No, thank YOU. Live happily in my home, now I can leave, knowing it is in good hands.’ #9forNavaratri

#9forNavaratri She’d play Karma Chameleon on loop every day until her mother wd beg her to stop. ‘It’s selfish to hog the airwaves in a 1-bed flat.’ She now lives in a mansion. Everyone shut in their rooms. No music. No chatter. She longs for the crush & noise of her childhood.

loved your book already as I think you know but these drawings so amazing & wow the full BBC treatment (sound effects!) bravo! 👏👏👏
I found an old notebook - so many stories and drawings by 13 yr old me. Writing was always my go-to escape from the everyday. So was drawing. I am so grateful that both these are part of my job now.
Today’s story on @bbcsounds is ‘In the Lap of the Gods’.

The next story on @BBCSounds is Letters Home. I was an ESOL teacher in Cardiff. Sometimes, the experiences of the refugees, asylum seekers and immigrants who were students there were hard to digest. They'd gone through so much to be here, and yet ...

This story is inspired by my time working in that school, no actual experiences of the students are included. Maybe some of my experiences are included - maybe!

Ayee! The colour of dust you are, she shouts when he comes home from school. Save me from this grubby lad, lounging around eating gol gappas. When he enlists he arrives in uniform, shining, upstanding with pride in khaki.
Pray god he does not return as ashes. #9forNavaratri
‘Can I have the khaki flavour please?’
‘That’s coffee, not khaki,’ the vendor said.
She shook her head vehemently. ‘It’s khaki.’
Her mother nodded, ‘Of course.’
‘I want everything to remind me of Papa.’
‘I know, my child. Can we have two khaki ice-creams please?’ #9forNavaratri
