Hi, we're the Svardal Group based at @UAntwerp, a research group interested in using genome sequencing data to uncover the evolutionary past of a variety of organisms, including cichlid fish, clingfish, lizards, cats and more! Give us a follow for updates on our research 🧬

We're getting the eDNA extraction and amplification for biodiversity monitoring with Ms @Els_DeK and @SvardalGroup by Prof @HannesSvardal at Molecular Laboratory UNHAS , Makassar, South Sulawesi🇮🇩 #UNHASGenomics #eDNA – at Kota Makassar, Sulawesi Selatan
On day 2 of our eDNA and genomics workshop we learnt about advanced evolution topics and how to study genomes using sequencing with lectures from Hannes and Jaysmita. In the afternoon we dived into learning linux 🤿💻 in the first steps to studying genomes! #UNHASgenomics
We're getting the workshop started with public lectures given by Hannes on biodiversity fundamentals and by Els on eDNA for biodiversity monitoring. Thank you to @VLIRUOS for funding this exciting meeting. #UNHASgenomics

Let's get this started! Welcome participants to the workshop on eDNA metabarcoding and genomics at UNHAS Makassar @HannesSvardal @SophieGresham
Day 1 of the UNHAS eDNA and Genomics here in Makassar, Sulawesi. Many thanks to the dean of the faculty of marine science and fisheries Prof. Safruddin and Dr. Ir. Nadiarti for the great introduction.
Thank you to rector Prof. Dr. Ir. Jamaluddin Jompain for welcoming us to Hasanuddin University (UNHAS) in Makassar, Sulawesi. We're happy to be at UNHAS over the next two weeks giving a workshop on eDNA and genomics for local researchers.

Grateful for the warm welcome by the biology students of Tadulako University, Palu. We kick off our field trip in Sulawesi by presenting our research on evolutionary genomics of the sailfin silverside fishes of the Malili lakes.
A big thank you to @eduardo_eizirik for making the time to visit our lab in Antwerp and delivering a fascinating talk about carnivore genomics, evolution and conservation!

Had a lovely few weeks hosting the awesome @jule_jop from @SvardalGroup for some exciting cichlid vision work. We’re missing you in @EvoHull ! Look forward to the story unfolding over the next few months… and thanks to collaborators in @HullBiomed
Congratulations to the newest Svardal group member @Lisa_VanLinden on gaining her @FWO PhD fellowship! Lisa will for the next 4 years be researching how island populations of the Italian wall lizard Podarcis siculus can survive genetic impoverishment.
Very excited to start this new chapter in my PhD life! 🦎🏝 Big thank you to @UAFunMorph for the support.

Honnoured that my group is acknowledged for our contributions to the @erga_biodiv pilot. Great efforts by @DiedericksGen @hgleitao and @VIBLifeSciences
Replying to @erga_biodiv
Hannes @HannesSvardal, leader of the Svardal Group @UAntwerpen @biominaBE, shares that the ERGA Pilot was an opportunity to learn about European diversity at all levels: molecular, human and even postal 📬
