Every software developer in the UK will flee
🚨 Wow. There is a little bullet point buried at the bottom of paragraph 4.131 in the 166-page budget document that suggests the UK could next year embark upon potentially its most consequential cybersecurity policy change since GDPR. 🧵

Yeh we’re not believing this anymore after the dagger moment that was supposed to be HUGE flopped
The PENULTIMATE episode of #CelebrityTraitors is reportedly the biggest episode of the show EVER… with a ‘BAFTA winning’ ending that has ‘never been seen on the show before, and may never be seen again’ 👀 #TheTraitors

Ever notice that in Dune humans fly spaceships between planets but don't use a single computer? That's not a plot hole. It's completely on purpose. The movies barely explain why, but once you know, almost everything else in Dune starts to make sense. About 10,000 years before Paul Atreides, humans did exactly what we're doing right now. They built thinking machines to make life easier. They let the machines do their work and make their decisions, hoping it would set them free. Instead, the people who controlled those machines gained the power to enslave everyone else. Humanity eventually fought back in a holy war called the Butlerian Jihad, and won. The thinking machines were destroyed. To make sure it would never happen again, they made one rule sacred: "Thou shalt not make a machine in the likeness of a human mind." But getting rid of computers created a problem: who would do their work? The answer was humans. Mentats are trained from childhood to think like computers. Navigators use the spice to glimpse the future and steer ships safely through space. The Bene Gesserit spend generations pushing the human mind and body to their limits. Every superpower in Dune exists for one reason: there are no computers. That's my favorite thing about Dune. It's also the most terrifying. Dune isn't a future without AI. It's the future after AI. Frank Herbert wrote that in 1965.

Nothing in the Budget for Plan 2 student loans. Not a word. My balance is £51,726.40. It will increase every month until April 2046. Plan 2 takes 9% of everything I earn above £29,385. That’s £1,668 a year. £139 a month. Interest on my loan is 6%. That’s the cap. Without it, I’d be on 6.8%. And from April 2027 the repayment threshold is frozen for three years. So every pay rise I get, more of it goes to the Student Loans Company. The Education Secretary called the interest ‘egregious’ in July. MPs said ministers had a ‘moral obligation’ to act at this Budget. Today: £100 energy payments, cheaper food tariffs, business rates cuts. For graduates: nothing.

jk rowling donated £70,000 to the transphobic organisation that changed the equality act in the UK and made it so that bathrooms, hospital wards and sports clubs are increasingly hostile towards the trans community. this resulted in someone literally not being treated for cancer
