Phil Neal and Ian Callaghan. Two ultimate Liverpool FC legends who scored their first goals for the Reds on 4 November. 'Zico' did so in a 6-0 demolition of Real Sociedad in an UEFA Cup tie in 1975, while 'Cally' found the back of the net in a 3-1 win over Preston at Deepdale in 1961, when the Reds still competed in the Second Division. From the second tier football to champion of England and Europe plus a World Cup winner with England, Callaghan came a long way, enjoying a long, trophy-spanned career! 📸 Mikołaj Sarnowski

To the Kop he was Crazy Horse. To a generation of Liverpool supporters he was, and always will be, the captain. He played 665 games for the club, won four league titles and lifted the first two European Cups Liverpool ever won, in Rome in 1977 and at Wembley a year later. He also won 62 England caps, 23 of them as captain. This week we took his collection back to Liverpool, where it made £1.2 million in a white-glove sale (all prices include premium). Rome led the way. The No.6 shirt he wore as captain in the 1977 final against Borussia Mönchengladbach made £72,800, and his winner’s medal from that night, when he became the first Liverpool captain to lift the trophy, made £52,000. The 9ct gold plaque from the 1972–73 title, the first of his four, made £62,400. There were also world records for a Kevin Keegan shirt at £84,500 and a George Best shirt at £49,400. Emlyn got both in swaps, Keegan’s from Hamburg in the 1977 European Super Cup and Best’s from Northern Ireland at Wembley in 1970. It has been a real pleasure to see this collection up close, and to talk to collectors from Liverpool and around the world about the man behind it. Our thanks go to the Hughes family for trusting us with it, and to everyone who bid to give a piece of his career a new home. budds.com/auctions/past-auct… #EmlynHughes #LFC #OwnYourPassion

"That for me is a penalty... That is the frustration with VAR, the lack of consistency." Nigel Reo-Coker and @TMeola1 agree that Liverpool should have been awarded a penalty for the incident involving Jurriën Timber and Alexander Isak 📺

As Liverpool fans we know what it’s like to have the deaths of loved ones mocked by opposition fans as they try to score points…. Make this little arsehole famous! #RIPBRADLEY X

🚨🗣️ RONALD ARAÚJO REVEALS WHAT ALEXIS MAC ALLISTER TOLD HIM BEFORE THE MATCH: “I WILL NEVER FORGET THOSE WORDS.” “Before the match, Alexis came to me and said something I didn't expect. He told me to enjoy the game, stay focused and never forget what it means to fight for the badge. “He also reminded me that football can change quickly, but the most important thing is to believe in yourself and give everything for your teammates. We had a brief conversation, but his words stayed with me throughout the game. “Alexis is someone I respect a lot. When a player from the opposition takes the time to speak to you like that, you appreciate it. Once the match started, we both had a job to do, but I will always remember that moment.” 🔴 Sometimes, a few words before kick-off can stay with you long after the final whistle.

🚨 Bruno Fernandes on his explosive altercation with Michael Carrick after Manchester United’s 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth: “I went straight to him after the final whistle. I wanted an explanation. I looked him in the eyes and asked, ‘Why didn't you play me? What exactly was I supposed to do sitting on that bench while the team was falling apart?’ He looked at me and said, ‘I'm the coach, Bruno. I'm the one who makes the decisions, not you.’ And that's when things got heated. I told him, ‘Then start making decisions that help this football club win football matches! Did you watch what happened out there? We lost 3-0, Michael! Three-nil! And you want to stand here telling me you're the coach?’ I told him Manchester United is nothing without me, and he should have learned that by now.** I'm not saying I'm bigger than this club, but look at the responsibility I've carried for this team. When things go wrong, I'm usually the one trying to make something happen. Then he looked at me and said, ‘Nobody is bigger than Manchester United.’ I told him, ‘Nobody is arguing that. But you need players who can change games, and you left one of them on the bench while we were getting embarrassed.’ He wasn't happy. I wasn't happy either. There were people around us, and everyone could see the argument wasn't going away quietly. But let me make one thing clear: **I will not stand there smiling and pretending everything is fine when we're losing 3-0 at Old Trafford.** I'm the captain. I have a responsibility to speak up, even when the truth makes people uncomfortable. Michael is the coach, and he has the right to make his decisions. But having that authority doesn't mean every decision is automatically correct. You can demand respect as a manager, but you also have to earn respect through your decisions. And after what happened against Bournemouth, there are serious questions that need answering.”

🚨 Fabian Hürzeler reacts to Brighton’s 2–0 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield: 🎙️ Interviewer: “Fabian, Brighton came into this game in excellent form, having scored 18 league goals and beaten Crystal Palace 5–0 last time out. How frustrating was it to leave Anfield without scoring? Fabian Hürzeler: “Honestly, it wasn’t what we expected. We arrived here believing we could hurt Liverpool because we’ve been scoring goals, creating chances and playing with confidence. We scored five against Palace, but today we couldn’t even find one at Anfield. That tells you something about the challenge we faced” “Liverpool shut us down from almost every angle. We couldn’t find the spaces we usually exploit, we couldn’t build the attacks we wanted, and whenever we tried to increase the pressure, they were ready for us. We have to accept that we were beaten by a team that defended with real discipline” “Ronald Araújo deserves particular credit. His work at right-back was outstanding. He was aggressive in the duels, made important tackles and gave our attackers very little room to breathe. He also supported Liverpool going forward. He wasn’t simply surviving in that position; he was influencing the game” “Then you look at Isak. He took his goal, gave Liverpool another threat to worry about, and punished us when the opportunity came. Gakpo also gave them quality and movement, making it difficult for us to settle defensively. These are players who can hurt you if you lose concentration for even a moment” “And I have to mention Andoni Iraola. What he’s doing at Liverpool is impressive. He’s getting his team to compete with intensity, defend as a unit and attack with purpose. You can see the organisation and belief in the way they play. His start has been very strong, and today his team executed the plan better than we executed ours” “But I won’t hide behind compliments. We scored five last week, and today we scored zero. That’s football, and we must respond.” Interviewer: “Does this defeat show that Liverpool under Iraola are becoming a different kind of challenge for the rest of the league? Hürzeler: “They certainly made life difficult for us. Everyone talks about Liverpool’s attacking talent, but today their defensive performance was just as important. You don’t score 18 league goals by accident, yet they managed to keep us quiet for the entire game. “We have to learn from this. But Liverpool deserve their victory, and Iraola deserves credit for what he is building.”

🚨 Virgil van Dijk on Liverpool’s defensive performance against Brighton under Andoni Iraola: “After the game, somebody mentioned that Brighton had 17 shots and more possession than us. I said, ‘Okay, and how many times did they actually trouble Alisson?’ He told me they had one shot on target. I said, ‘Well, there you go.’ People sometimes look at possession and think it tells them which team was in control. But there’s a difference between having the ball and knowing what to do with it. Brighton are a very good side. They’re comfortable in possession, they move the ball quickly, and they’ve got players who can hurt you. You can’t just turn up and expect to keep them quiet. We knew that before the game. Andoni was very clear with us during the preparation. He said, ‘They will have periods where they keep the ball. Don’t get frustrated. Don’t start chasing players into areas where they want you to go.’ That was important. Because sometimes when a team keeps passing the ball around you, the temptation is to go after it. One player steps out, another follows, and suddenly there’s a space where there wasn’t one before. That’s what Brighton wanted. I remember one moment when they were moving the ball across our midfield, trying to draw somebody out. I could hear the supporters getting impatient because we weren’t pressing immediately. But we stayed where we needed to be. They went backwards, came forward again, switched the play, and eventually tried a ball into the box that we dealt with. I turned to Jeremy and said, ‘That’s fine. Let them keep doing that.’ We weren’t trying to win every individual moment. We were trying to win the game. At half-time, Andoni told us not to change our approach just because we were ahead. He said Brighton would come out with more urgency and try to make the game uncomfortable. And they did. But that’s where you have to trust the work you’ve done during the week. You could see them trying different things. They came through the middle, they went wide, they tried shooting from distance. We didn’t give them the spaces they wanted. And I think that’s something people are beginning to understand about this Liverpool team. We don’t always have to dominate the ball to dominate the match. Under Andoni, everybody has a responsibility. The forwards know when to press. The midfielders know when to hold their positions. The defenders know when to step forward and when to stay. It’s not 11 players making eleven different decisions. It’s one team. After the final whistle, I saw the statistics again. Brighton had more possession, more shots, more touches in our box. But Liverpool had two goals, and Brighton had none. That’s the statistic I was interested in. Andoni is still building his team. We’re still learning things about each other, and there are areas where we can improve. But when you can face a team as dangerous as Brighton and make them work that hard just to get one shot on target, it tells you the players are starting to understand exactly what the manager wants. That’s how you build something that lasts.”

🚨 Mohamed Salah reveals the conversation with Arne Slot that made him decide to leave Liverpool despite having a year left on his contract: 🎙️ Interviewer: “Mo, you still had a year remaining on your Liverpool contract. What happened in your conversation with Arne Slot that made you feel it was time to move on? Mohamed Salah: “Honestly, this was not an easy decision for me. Liverpool is not just another club in my career. This is a place where I gave everything, where I experienced incredible moments, and where the supporters made me feel like one of their own” “But sometimes, a conversation can make you look at everything differently. I spoke with the manager, and I left that conversation asking myself a question I never thought I would have to ask: ‘Is my future here still what I believe it should be?’ Interviewer: “Did Slot say something that hurt you? Salah: “I don’t want to turn a private conversation into a public argument. I respect the manager, and I will not pretend every decision in football is personal. But when you have given so much to a club, you want to feel that your future and your ambitions still matter” “The difficult part wasn’t the contract. I had a year left. I could have stayed, collected my wages and allowed the situation to continue. But I have never played football that way. I want to feel wanted. I want to feel that I am part of the plan, not simply part of the past” Interviewer: “So was that the moment you decided to leave? Salah: “It made me think seriously about what comes next. Sometimes, leaving isn’t about losing your love for a club. Sometimes, you leave because that love is still there, but you begin to question whether the situation around you is right anymore” “Liverpool supporters gave me memories I will carry for the rest of my life. That is why this hurts. If I didn’t care, walking away would be easy” “But I cannot keep living on what I achieved yesterday. I still have ambitions. I still want to compete, win trophies and feel excited about what tomorrow brings” Interviewer: “What would you say to the fans who believe Liverpool should have done more to keep you? Salah: “I would tell them that football is never as simple as people think. Supporters see the goals, the trophies and the celebrations. They don’t always see the conversations that happen behind closed doors” “I will always be grateful for Liverpool. But loving a club doesn’t mean you must stay forever, especially when you start questioning your place in its future”
