Happy birthday to former Alma, Oklahoma A&M and NFL defensive back Bennie Aldridge, born on this day in 1926 in Duncan. Aldridge played high school football and ran track at Alma High School. He attended Oklahoma A&M, where he was a member of coach Jim Lookabaugh's conference championship teams of 1947 and 1948. In 1950, Aldridge was a sixth round NFL Draft selection by the New York Yanks, playing two seasons in New York, intercepting five passes in 1951. He also played for the Dallas Texans, San Francisco 49ers and Green Bay Packers, intercepting five passes in 1953, his final NFL season. In four NFL seasons, Aldridge intercepted 11 passes and recovered five fumbles. He also scored a touchdown on a five-yard pass in the 49ers' 48-21 win over the Texans in 1952. After retiring from the Packers in 1954, Aldridge went to work as manager at Welex Jet Service, Inc. in Great Bend, Kansas. Sadly, Aldridge passed away in a plane crash in southern Oklahoma in 1956 at the age of 30 and was laid to rest in Duncan Municipal Cemetery. Happy birthday Bennie! #tdfn #okpreps @Cowboy_FB
