Exactly. At the beginning, he surely gathered the initial information about where everyone was and what the numerical situation looked like, so perhaps reversing the position could have directed Osula to move to the left. Virgil should be guiding the play towards the numerical advantage rather than allowing isolated 1v1s, knowing that he could also force the ball carrier onto his weaker foot.
Iβm sure they were told in the briefing to close down and prevent Elanga from making runs in behind, and to shut down those kinds of connections. He did something similar with Haaland once: he gathered information about where the support was coming from and then directed the Norwegian towards that side, allowing Alexis to come across and giving them a numerical advantage.
Delaying the play is good, but it has to be backed by awareness and good decision-making. This particular movement was far too passive

π¨ Barcelona have decided to rival Real Madrid for Rodri. A midfield target before the World Cup and now talks are ongoing.
Manchester City still want to keep Rodri, but Barcelona are prepared to make an offer.
Real were previously clear favourites, but Barcelona is also of appeal to Rodri, who would ideally like to move to Spain for both football and family reasons.

Mac Allisterβs fit with Alonso comes down to composure under pressure.
He rarely forces a turn or a risky dribble when tightly marked, opting instead for a first-touch lay-off that keeps the ball moving and the attack alive.
His progressive passing range is elite too, vertical balls through lines, third-man combinations, switches to the weak side.
The one flag is discipline. 21 yellows and a red in his last 105 Premier League games shows his intensity in duels occasionally tips into recklessness.

Garnacho's problem at Chelsea was never ability. 6.45 dribbles per 90 and one of the best 1v1 profiles in Europe's top five leagues.
The issue is what happens after he beats his man. He rushes the final ball every single time, first shot or first cross available, no matter the situation.
Villa on loan is actually a smart move for him. Emery's system forces wingers to check back and recycle possession rather than just running at defenders. If anyone can coach patience into his end product, it's probably Emery.
If he doesn't fix it there, it's probably not getting fixed.

Yan Diomande led the entire Bundesliga in successful dribbles last season. Even ahead of Olise.
12 goals, 7 assists, 143 progressive runs and a 67.1% dribble success rate at RB Leipzig. Real Madrid paid over β¬100m for a reason.
But Mourinho wants structure, discipline, defensive responsibility first. Diomande's best work comes in transition and half-spaces where he has freedom to carry and create. That's a genuine tension.
