new prime minister's first speech at the un. the big ai announcement: "uk ready to lead global push on ai standards" lead on the rules. not on building it, not on the compute, not on the companies. on the standards... the us and china are building the thing. we're volunteering to be the hall monitor. same energy as telling civil servants not to say thank you to gemini once again we're deadset on writing the rules instead of building the thing. it's embarrassing.

the amount of people thinking this is fake is hilarious. it's real. it's on ai.gov.uk. i found it because i'm weird and browse government ai pages but it shows exactly what's wrong. we aren't taking ai seriously. the us and china are pouring billions into building it and we're writing guidance on environmentally friendly prompts there is no reason we can't compete. none. it's complacency, being a stickler for rules, and the constant gaslighting that we're still superior we're not. we have to earn it back by building, not by lecturing civil servants on how to not say thank you to a chatbot
the uk government's official ai guidance tells civil servants to use gemini flash instead of pro, keep prompts short, and not say thank you to it, for the environment i do wonder at which point we forked the road. instead of building and using it to automate the work, we write guidance on how to use less of it we have the attitude of a high school prefect. caring more about the rules than actually doing the work

Sakana AI welcomes Jürgen Schmidhuber as Chief Scientific Advisor. sakana.ai/schmidhuber/ Sakana AI is incredibly proud to announce that Jürgen Schmidhuber, universally recognized as the father of modern AI, is officially joining Sakana AI as Chief Scientific Advisor. For nearly four decades, Jürgen has explored how machines can learn to learn. His foundational work in the 1990s drove core advancements in deep learning and established early frameworks for world models. Crucially, his pioneering innovations in meta-learning opened the very path toward recursive self-improvement. These ideas have already shaped our own research, from the Darwin Gödel Machine to The AI Scientist. Now Jürgen will help guide our newly formed RSI Lab, whose objective is to trigger a compounding cycle of scientific discovery aimed at improving machine intelligence. We are assembling a critical mass of world-class experts in Tokyo to make this a reality. Welcome, @SchmidhuberAI !

Reset culture is terrible for subscription users. People are sitting at 0%, watching Tibo and guessing when the next free reset is coming, while changing how they use Codex because they’re scared of wasting potential usage. Nobody should have to think this much about a subscription even after paying. Just give every plan a predictable usage bucket that regenerates a few times a day. And if Tibo wants to give everyone free compute, just add it to everyone’s meter. No weird resets, no guessing, no “did I waste my usage?” Just make it predictable. -20x

the average experience of the average chatgpt user has gone up by 10x, but for a plus/pro sub, not by as much and that's not a bad thing

HUGE: Google's AI just solved 84% of the International Math Olympiad (IMO) problems from 2000-24 with Alpha Geometry 2! These are math problems most professors couldn't solve.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The 84% number is only of the geometry problems on the test, which is one category (of four) of problems on the IMO. This system does not solve 84% of the problems on the full test. This information is available in the paper itself. arxiv.org/pdf/2502.03544

0 donations from pharma CEOs. 0 donations from Wall St. CEOs. 0 donations from oil company CEOs. 8 million from working people giving $27 at a time. I am very proud of that fact.

It should come as no great surprise that a Democratic Party which has abandoned working class people would find that the working class has abandoned them. While the Democratic leadership defends the status quo, the American people are angry and want change. And they’re right.
