Excited to present this description of a new Encelia from Baja California Sur. A beautiful bloomer and rare species with only a handful of documented populations along a rugged coastline.

Possibly the least Asteraceae-like #Asteraceae plant ever. Incense Plant (#Calomeria amaranthoides), native to eastern NSW and VIC, thrives after bushfire, only lives for several years. The foliage is aromatic as well.

A sweet reminder from the dictionary: the word ‘daisy’ was originally ‘day’s eye’, because the flower opens its petals at dawn to reveal its sunny central disc, and closes them again at dusk.

As to what disc and ray florets are in the Asteraceae, try this diagram. 'Flowers' are made from two types of tiny #flowers crowded together, either all one type (like #thistle - disc florets or #dandelion - ray florets) or a mixture, like yarrow. Detail gets complicated!
