TIPS FOR NEW INTERNS CALLING CONSULTS:
-Never ever apologize. Especially at night there’s a tendency to lead with “Sorry to bother you.” You can be polite without setting the tone of the conversation immediately on the defensive. “Thank you for taking my call.”

I told my boyfriend I’ll be home in an hour 4 hours ago and that’s what being a doctor is all about- time management
Why do academic hospitals put residents on call for OSH EDs but then “can’t give advice” because they are residents? Honest question that seems to happen at a lot of tertiary/quaternary care places.
We live in a wild world where laypeople on X argue with medical professionals about whether or not VFib is a lethal rhythm… #wild

Teaching in EM isn’t a lecture hall.
It’s a nod, a question, a quiet correction at 2am.

The reason we MANDATE vaccines to attend school is because while it is certainly your right to put your own children’s health/lives at risk for your own stupid anti-scientific reasons, you do not have the right to ENDANGER the health/lives of EVERYONE ELSE. This isn’t complicated

We agree with Charlie Kirk on basically nothing.
Except that he deserves the right, as every human does, to speak freely without the threat of violence.
“Doing a good job at work is great until you're expected to take on extra responsibilities without getting paid anything extra for it….”
A year ago, I began a small tradition
—words and a coin to honor how strangers became family in the hardest, most beautiful way.
What started with my own class has grown.
Last summer, I gave coins to the faculty who (sometimes against our will) shaped us into emergency medicine
doctors who can handle whatever is needed. And this week, I had the privilege of passing them on again-to a new class of graduates who now carry the legacy forward.
To our newest graduates- I'm so proud of you. You've earned every bit of this.
My door is open, my phone is on, and my heart is with you. Always.

The most dangerous phrase in medicine isn’t “I don’t know.”
It’s:
“That’s the way we’ve always done it.”
A thread on epistemic humility, diagnostic inertia, and how medicine forgets—until it remembers.

My evergreen advice for a happy match day:
I wrote down a list of reasons I’d be thrilled to go for every program I ranked and put them in sealed envelopes. That way on match day, no matter where I matched, I had an envelope to open with reasons to feel excited.

Make it 3 years + they’ll be ready by 3. Make it 4 years + they’ll be ready by 4. Make it 5 years + hospital admin will be licking their lips at the $$$. Make it 6 + we will have 2k open EM spots after match because it’s so much easier/cost effective to become an EM NP/PA. 💅🏿
