STATEMENT FROM CHIEF THAI TRUONG
Member conduct investigation
LONDON, ON (September 28, 2026) – Late this afternoon, I was made aware of a video that raises concerns regarding the conduct of some members of our service. The video shows those members leaving a restaurant and entering an unmarked police vehicle, with alcohol visible inside. The video shows a service-issued firearm stored in circumstances that raise concerns. The incident occurred in Toronto on June 24, 2026, following a police funeral.
As Chief of Police, I have personally viewed the video and have taken immediate action. I have directed that the matter be reported to the Toronto Police Service for investigation into the circumstances involving the handling and storage of the police firearm. At the conclusion of the criminal investigation, the overall conduct of the members involved will be investigated pursuant to the provisions of the Community Safety and Policing Act.

Behind every name is a life. A family. A community. A legacy.
Yesterday, members of the London Police Service joined police and peace officers from across Canada in Ottawa for the 49th Annual Canadian Police and Peace Officers’ Memorial.
Together, we honoured the officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the Line of Duty, including the six fallen heroes added to the memorial this year.
Their names are a solemn reminder of the risks police and peace officers face every day while serving and protecting our communities.
We remember their service, their courage and their sacrifice, and stand alongside the families, colleagues and communities who continue to carry their memory forward in remembrance.
Their names will never be forgotten. They are #HeroesInLife, not death.

LPS officers, civilian police professionals, along with members from @SCPSofficer, @STPSmedia, @OPP_News and @RCMPONT, stepped up and shaved their heads to support children and families facing cancer.
Together, we’ve already raised more than $12,000, and we’re not done yet! 🙌 Every dollar helps support a meaningful cause.

Our thoughts are with everyone affected by last night’s shooting near the Sons of Jacob Synagogue in Belleville, including Cst. Smith, who remains in hospital, his loved ones, colleagues and all members of the Belleville Police Service.
An incident of this nature occurring near a synagogue on Yom Kippur understandably causes concern, particularly within Jewish communities at a time when many are already concerned about their safety.
Here in London, we remain closely connected with our Jewish community and have increased visible police patrols at places of worship and community locations across our city.
Everyone should be able to gather, worship and practice their faith safely and without fear. We encourage anyone who observes suspicious activity or has an immediate safety concern to contact police.

51 students. One unforgettable summer. A record-breaking YIPI program. 🚔🎓
Today, we celebrated the 51 incredible students who made this the biggest London Police Service Youth in Policing Initiative (YIPI) program in our history.
This summer, our YIPIs stepped outside their comfort zones, built connections and experienced the incredible diversity of our community, working alongside community partners, cultural groups and organizations across London.
And they left their mark. Known for being respectful, caring and eager to make a difference, this group made us incredibly proud.
We know these young leaders will carry what they learned into their futures and continue to make meaningful change in our community. And who knows, we may even see some of them back in uniform one day. 👮♀️
A huge congratulations to all 51 YIPIs, and thank you to our Community Mobilization and Support Branch, our Executive Team, our community partners and, of course, the families who came out to celebrate them.
We couldn’t be prouder. Keep leading YIPIs, your future is bright! 💙

Spending time on or near the water this summer? ☀️ The LPS is reminding Londoners to make safety your top priority.
As we recognize National Drowning Prevention Week (July 19–25), take time to prepare and be smart around the water. A few simple precautions can help prevent tragedy:
💧 Always keep children within arm’s reach around water.
🛶 Wear a properly fitted lifejacket when boating or participating in water sports.
🏊 Enroll yourself and your children in swimming lessons to build confidence and lifesaving skills.
🚫 Never swim or operate a boat while impaired by alcohol or drugs.
📱 Keep a phone nearby and know how to call for help in an emergency.
🌊 Be aware of changing water and weather conditions, and never overestimate your swimming ability.
One drowning is one too many. By making smart choices before heading out, we can all help keep our families, friends, and community safe this summer.

On behalf of the London Police Service, I offer our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to Chief Moreira, the Durham Regional Police Service, and the families of the two Constables in Training involved in today's tragic collision.
The loss of one young Constable in Training at the very beginning of their journey in public safety, and the life-threatening injuries sustained by another, is a heartbreaking tragedy for our policing community. Our thoughts are firmly with their families, loved ones, classmates, instructors, and every member of the Durham Regional Police Service during this unimaginable time.
Today, the Durham Regional Police Service is mourning a profound loss following a tragic motor vehicle collision near the Ontario Police College involving two Constables in Training (CIT) who were travelling to training.
It is with deep sadness that I share that one CIT has lost their life, while the other remains in life-threatening condition.
During this difficult time, our focus is on supporting the families of our CIT's, as well as their classmates, instructors, friends, and members of our Service who are grieving this tragic loss. We will continue to ensure they receive the care and support they need.
We ask that the public respect the privacy of the families and all those affected as they navigate this unimaginable tragedy, and as notifications continue.
The circumstances surrounding the collision remain under investigation by the Ontario Provincial Police, and we will not be providing any further details at this time.
