I find it insanely mediocre watching corporate CTOs, CISOs, and supposedly elite cybersecurity professionals panic over AI while demanding more regulation, restrictions, and guardrails. Do these people genuinely believe the offensive side of cybersecurity is going to politely slow down while they figure out how to regulate innovation? Your adversaries aren't waiting for permission. They're running local compute, fine-tuning open-weight LLMs, orchestrating autonomous agents, and experimenting with offensive capabilities well beyond the reach of your corporate AI policies or regulatory frameworks. Meanwhile, you're sitting in boardrooms debating what your employees should be allowed to prompt. Here's the uncomfortable reality: Some independent operator with consumer-grade hardware, enough persistence, and a well-orchestrated collection of AI agents may already be advancing faster than your entire multimillion-dollar cybersecurity department. Even a determined script kiddie who spends enough hours mastering AI-assisted workflows can develop capabilities that would've required significantly more specialized expertise just a few years ago. The barrier to offensive capability is collapsing, and the speed of technological advancement isn't waiting for anyone to catch up. Your job title doesn't make you elite. Your certifications don't make you elite. Your corporate budget, decades of experience, or impressive LinkedIn profile certainly don't make you elite. Your ability to adapt, execute, innovate, and defend against emerging threats does. Calling for guardrails is not a substitute for competence. Security controls have their place. Responsible development has its place. But pretending that regulation alone will somehow neutralize adversaries operating outside your jurisdiction, running unrestricted models on privately owned hardware, is an astonishingly naïve security strategy. You cannot regulate your way into technical superiority. You cannot legislate your way out of being technologically outclassed. And you certainly cannot expect the offensive frontier to respect the limitations you've voluntarily imposed on yourself. If your entire defensive strategy depends on everyone else slowing down, you've already surrendered the initiative. Perhaps it's time to have a much more uncomfortable conversation about the people occupying these leadership positions. Maybe the problem isn't that AI is moving too quickly. Maybe the problem is that too many people responsible for securing our digital infrastructure are fundamentally unprepared for the technological realities unfolding right in front of them. Instead of demanding that innovation slow down to accommodate institutional incompetence, perhaps it's time to replace leadership that refuses to evolve. Destroy the technical debt. Retire obsolete infrastructure. Rebuild security architectures around the realities of autonomous AI, rapidly evolving offensive capabilities, and adversaries who have absolutely no intention of following your rules. Hire builders. Empower operators. Invest in continuous adversarial testing. Reward demonstrated technical capability over corporate titles and institutional seniority. Stop confusing compliance with security, credentials with competence, and fear with leadership. The future of cybersecurity belongs to those willing to continuously challenge their own systems, rethink their assumptions, and build defenses capable of evolving as quickly as the threats they're facing. The offensive frontier isn't waiting for your compliance department, your next executive meeting, or another regulatory committee to decide what's acceptable. There is no putting this technological evolution back in the bottle. Adapt or become obsolete. Out with the old. Destroy. Rebuild. Evolve.
