"It's 10:31" - only @MannGeorgia can imbue such a mundane statement with a sense of pause, reflection and celebration - as if somehow there's never been quite such a 10:31 in the whole history of the universe. @BBCRadio3

This is very sad news, that @BBCRadio3 will no longer be available to international listeners. The letter makes the excellent point that it was such a comfort during lockdown. Also surely it’s a diminution of the importance of the station, which doesn’t bode well.@PetrocTrelawny
The point about the soft power of a network like @BBCRadio3 is well made. It reflects the power of music making in the UK. There will be all kinds of complexities driving this but I hope a solution can be found that allows worldwide listening to continue. theguardian.com/media/2025/m…

This was such fun to do, and huge thanks to @MattNixson - do spare a moment to read it. I should add, before the armchair historians come for me, that King George DID visit other empire countries, but never after he was crowned

Hmm. 'None' is a short form here of 'not one', and therefore takes the singular - 'None of us IS going to leave the island'. If it weren't Agatha, there'd be slapped wrists all round ...😆
Have you read the best-selling crime novel of all time? 👀

What weird and wonderful thing happened on 7 February which sent my sales soaring into the stratosphere? Did Elvis suddenly reappear? The Angel Gabriel? Thoughts please, co-authors...!

"When a literary society is more interested in the diversity of its writers than the quality of their writing, and is more worried about causing offence than the physical safety of novelists, it has ceased to have any reason to exist" | ✍️ @HadleyFreeman thetimes.co.uk/article/hadle…

A vital read for all writers - how our societies, the @Soc_of_Authors and @RSLiterature have, through cowardice, prejudice and self-importance, driven their members into the ditch. Authors are real people whose voice is paramount - not the poseurs who claim to represent them
My @thetimes column this week is on @SalmanRushdie and the literary societies that so grievously fail authors thetimes.co.uk/article/38b0d…

It would appear the British Library has badly mishandled a cyber attack which disabled its systems and compromised the details of many authors who use its resources. A must-read for all BL users theguardian.com/books/2024/j…
