With the 28th Pick, the #Sixers drafted 6’4” G Jaden Springer out of Tennessee.
Springer's defense is his best trait. His strength allows him to guard the POA, post, and switch. He has great instincts as an off ball defender and knows when to gamble for steals and deflections.
Springer will have to develop his ability to finish off 1 foot. There were flashes that you will see below but they were few and far between.
At pick #28 Springer is a nice get for the Sixers. He's going to be a versatile defender and his ability to defend the POA will be crucial. A successful first season for Springer will be if he can develop a more diverse finishing package and consistently improve making open 3's.
🚨🚨SIXERS WIZARDS G1 BREAKDOWN🚨🚨
The Wizards, who are 1st in pace in the NBA, punished the Sixers lazy transition defense in the first half. The Sixers ramped up their effort in the second half, only letting the Wizards get out in transition 5 times, down from 11 in the 1H.
MATISSE THYBULLE GROWTH AS A DRIVER: Part 1
Since April 1st, Matisse is averaging 2.44 direct drives per 36 minutes, nearly double his average prior to April (1.28 per 36). He’s also been 53% more effective, scoring 1.12 points per direct drive since April - up from 0.73.
NEW SIXERS SET OF THE WEEK ⤵️
This quick hitter for Tobias combines Simmons’s precision on passes with Harris’s excellent cutting. Since Embiid is stationed at the nail, while Seth and Danny are at the FT line extended, their defenders can't help at the rim.
Sixers Stat of the Week: Since the #NBA began tracking shots by distance in the 1996-1997 season, #JoelEmbiid is one of two players to ever take over 2.5 attempts from 16-24 ft. and shoot over 60% from that distance. The other is Stephen Curry in 2011-2012. (Min. 5 games played).
At the start of the Bulls and Cavs games, the Sixers ran the same play: an option for Seth to choose two different ball screens that result in an Embiid Iso.

Tobi ranks in the 88th percentile on 3’s attempted per game after a pass in transition. He does a great job at reading help defense’s and dishing to his teammates. The Sixers rank 5th in points per 100 possessions in transition with Tobias’s improvement being a major reason why.
