”I will wholeheartedly recommend the Faculty of Educational Sciences that Terhi Vessonen’s doctoral dissertation is accepted”
…were the words pronounced on 26th of September by my esteemed opponent, Professor Lieven Verschaffel. Those words made one of my biggest dreams true.

Finishing a great week in Graz, Austria for #EARLI2025. Got to spend time with colleagues from Germany, Finland, and the Netherlands!
Glad to be able to present the findings of my third dissertation sub-study at my first MCLS Conference! Thank you, @sarahpowellphd for attending and sharing posts from the session. #MCLS2024 @mathcogsociety
At this word-problem session at #MCLS2024 @TVessonen shares research from a meta analysis. She noted a very large effect (almost 1 SD). She also noted that schema instruction that is infused with vocabulary or equation-solving instruction has an added benefit.
EARLI SIG15 (Special Educational Needs) members can still vote in the selection of the next junior researcher coordinator. Find out more in the @EarliSIG15 newsletter that dropped in the email last week! @earli_office
Erasmus+ visit to @KU_Leuven was such an experience! 🇧🇪 Meeting new (awesome) researchers and discussing mathematics learning research and research methods more generally provided me with novel view points and ideas. My sincerest thanks to @WimVanDooren1 and others at @cipt_kul!
Already the second week of visiting @WimVanDooren1 and his colleagues at KU Leuven, Belgium. Today, we had a methodological seminar on systematic reviews and meta-analyses. Who wouldn’t love to discuss research methods? ☀️@PPW_KULeuven @KU_Leuven
