A Nobel Prize-winning chemist fed cows no protein at all for years, and they gave milk, and the milk was full of protein. Artturi Virtanen won his Nobel for chemistry in 1945. In the 1960s he took dairy cows off every protein in their diet and fed them urea and ammonium salts, which are nitrogen and nothing else, with cellulose and starch for energy. The cows made milk. Full milk, with every essential amino acid in it, for years, through several lactations. The microbes in the rumen took the nitrogen and built the protein from scratch, and the cow digested the microbes. They built every B vitamin as well, including B12, which no plant and no animal can make and which comes, in the end, from a microbe or nowhere. A cow is the only farm animal that manufactures protein. A pig and a chicken can only move protein from one place to another, and the place is usually a soy field. Feed a pig a kilo of soy protein and you get less than a kilo of pork. Feed a cow grass with no protein worth the name and you get a kilo of beef and milk anyway. Grazing cattle produce more protein a human can eat than they consume. A cow is a protein factory with a grass intake and a chemist-proof design, and she can run it on nitrogen and sunlight. Every plant-based plan to replace her begins with growing the protein first.

#Nebraska 2 Minute Warning Matt Gaetz is completely bought and paid for by the animal rights community. The interview in circulation about Horse Slaughter facilitating drug cartels is total bovine fecal matter.

Texas farmers and ranchers can temporarily use dyed diesel on public roads following a statewide disaster declaration by Gov. @GregAbbott_TX. The declaration also allows fuel, agricultural and timber loads to operate at a gross weight of up to 95,000 pounds. Texas Farm Bureau President Russell Boening said the changes will help reduce costs as farmers and ranchers face high fuel prices and other production expenses. Read more: txfb.us/46Pqw7e

Cattlemen, what do you know about the Asian Longhorn tick disease called Theileria? It appears you better get a crash course in it. Dr Scott McVey from the UNL in Lincoln has the basic details.

Looking ahead at next week the weather Gods are lining up widespread HEAVY RAIN threats across the central USA. This has become a very dry area. I'm sure farmers are looking at this and certain harvest times but over the next 7 days plenty of rain will fall. The drought monitor is down this morning or I would include it in this post. Fall is kicking in.

Replying to @johnrich
@johnrich 300 is nothing @Google is proposing 400,000 acres or 80,000-MW in the southern Tx Panhandle that produces 35% of the US #beef @ERCOT_ISO will construct line to support this. The kicker is this area is powered by #southwestpowerpool not ERCOT!

Dangerous monsoon surge Tue-Wed night with heavy rain, some flash flooding, & probably some river & tributary flooding. Monsoon surge weakens Thu & Fri with more localized heavy rain & flash flooding. Turn around so you don't drown when you encounter a flooded road. #NMWx

Symptoms of corn stunt are being observed this season in late planted corn in OK Growers from all US can have corn leaf samples tested for FREE at my lab Please contact me if you suspect corn stunt symptoms in your field
Corn stunt management requires an integrated approach combining cultural practices, host plant resistance, and management of the insect vector. There is no curative treatment for infected plants. Management efforts should focus on suppressing corn leafhopper populations across the regional landscape, thereby preventing early infection of corn plants and reducing disease spread within and between fields. I just wanted to add that this has been really hard on a lot of families. My dad has pep in his step again. He usually goes to bed at like six and he was up at 9 o’clock last night sending me videos of cattle. Yesterday was a good day for a lot of families in the Southwest.
