Test day 9 also good: did basic testing on - the 4 different revisions of Naomi 1 boards I own, and - the 2 different revisions of Naomi 2 boards I own, and it seems to work... Next step - look at the 2-3 small changes I need to do for v2.1, and modifying the design of v2.0...

Test day 8 ends in a super positive way: The problem with BIOS3 was due to my simplistic flasher app not disabling irqs during the critical page-writing part, so I never correctly wrote 2MB to the Bioses. Problem fixed, and now I can boot from one of the 3 bioses on my pcb :)

Test day 7 was hard for my (in)sanity levels. Had strange behaviors that confused me yesterday, so after a good night's sleep, I found several problems: 1 - I was not flashing the bios I thought I was flashing, so that got me confused

2 - the Bioses' CE pins need a pull-up resistor to 3V3, otherwise, there are interferences, and it boots an other bios than the one I select... so I'll need a new pcb version with that 3 - the MX chip in BIOS 3 was bad/fake, I replaced it, and I can flash it without problems.

... which reminds me I should buy a programmer or adapter for SOP44 chips, to program flash chips before I solder them, to detect fake or bad ones. Can't boot yet from BIOS 3, but that needs more testing....

Very happy with Test Day 6 😆 - wrote a mini prog to program the MX29F1610 flash bios - sent it to my pcb over USB-C - it programmed the chip in Bios 2, and now I can boot from it ! That will save me a lot of time from burning a UV-EEPROM everytime I modify my custom bios...

Test Day 5 OK: - 1 flash chip soldered in "BIOS2"... & re-soldered, it was a bad job :) (1st time doing such a chip) -> before & after photo - BIOS1 Boot (UV-EEPROM): dc-load-serial -> custom mini-program sent from pc via USB-C -> can read the BIOS2, so pcb + soldering are OK !

50-pin socket to connect a Dreamcast (or Atomiswave) BBA ethernet adapter: also tested working ok ! (here connected via a test-adapter to my pcb, I still need to design a real adapter pcb) That leaves only the 2 footprints for flashable bioses to test...

Test Day 3: - onboard CompactFlash socket works - W5500 (Wiz8510io) serial->ethernet socket works That means that until now, everything pretty much works :) Still to test: - flashable bioses 2 & 3 - G2 socket for DC/Atomiswave BBA, but that's for later, an adapter pcb is needed

Test day 2: - Bios Socket 1 works, - IDE44 connector works (here with a CF-adapter), and - SD card socket works Testing with SWAT's Dreamshell latest 4.0.4 Release, that released 4 hours ago, and works on Naomi :)

Soldering part 1 done - 1st functionality tested ok: usb-serial upload at max speed of 1562500 bps (nehe05 example of KallistiOS):

Design of the rev.2 of my dev board nearly finished... still amazed how easy it was to learn the basics of KiCad... (I'll probably spend the next part of my life learning the real, less noob way of designing pcb's...)

My 2nd pcb design ever just arrived: a dev board for the Naomi in the making... Not so small detail: now I need to learn how to solder the remaing connectors (some 286 pins to solder... ) :)

1st time I did "drag soldering" (soldering a 100-pin Omron connector + a 42-pin socket for the bios, on my dev pcb for Naomi/System SP)... 1st test passed: the bios on my dev pcb is read correctly:

Finally all +- 400 pins have been soldered, and I'm happy with the results of my 2nd ever pcb design: - BIOS socket works - usb-serial (SCIF) works - SCI->SD (SPI) works - IDE44 (to Compactflash) works - Ethernet works via an Atomiswave BBA

New hobby unlocked: PCB Design with #KiCad (& electronics). My 1st PCB design from scratch: an adapter to try to connect the BBA to a SET5. Took me some reverse-engineering with multimeter to find most pins, my 1st pcb should help me find the last missing pins... fingers crossed

Rust? On *my* Sega Dreamcast? It's more likely than you think! I just put out a tutorial and supporting repo for creating Rust projects in Cargo targetting Dreamcast + KallistiOS using rustc_codegen_gcc! Here's an example cube calling GLdc from Rust! dreamcast.wiki/Rust_on_Dream…
