PPC has finally sold its 418ha Arlington property for $27m. The cement company says the buyer “is a privately held Zimbabwean company associated with property holdings in Zimbabwe”.
PPC bought the land in 1990, but Govt seized it in 2010. It was returned to the cement maker in 2024 and is zoned for commercial, industrial and residential development.
Earlier this year, a $30m sale to developer Transvaal Africa fell through after the buyer missed a payment deadline. Transvaal said at the time that it couldn't go ahead with the deal because of legal action over the land and Govt plans to use part of it for airport expansion.
PPC says the land “does not contain any limestone deposits and PPCZ has no commercial use” for it in its cement business.
Zimbabwe is currently PPC Africa’s best-performing market, and the company plans to build a new plant to meet rising demand.
PPC Zim has put its 418ha Arlington land back on the market after Transvaal Africa failed to pay the agreed US$30 million on time.
“The Arlington Property remains a non-core asset and any other purchase offers PPCZ may receive will be considered on their merits.”
Transvaal Africa had announced plans to build a “cargo village” on the site, near RGM International Airport. The company was co-founded by Patson Moyo and Nomvuyo Dube.

A quick message on what it means to me personally to win the Ballon d’Or!! 🙌🏆
Random Fact:
The first ever mobile GSM network in Nigeria was set up by Zimbabweans in 2001. It was called Econet Wireless Nigeria.
The CEO was Zachary Wazara.
The first mobile GSM call in Nigeria was made by a Zimbabwean, Strive Masiyiwa, then Econet CEO on 6 May 2001.
MTN Nigeria trailed Econet / Strive Masiyiwa, only making its first GSM call on 16 May 2001.
The network that Econet set up was corruptly sold to Vodacom and renamed VMobile. (Vee Networks) in 2004 after a shareholder fight.
VMobile was then sold to Celtel in 2006.
It became Zain in a year later and is now known as Airtel Nigeria.

There are people who attract happiness to themselves by their good cheer, natural buoyancy, and intelligence.
They are a source of pleasure, and you must associate with them to share in the prosperity they draw upon themselves.

Associate with the generous, then, and they will infect you, opening up everything that is tight and restricted in you.
If you are gloomy, gravitate to the cheerful.
If you are prone to isolation, force yourself to befriend the gregarious.

Never associate with those who share your defects — they will reinforce everything that holds you back.
Only create associations with positive affinities.
Make this a rule of life and you will benefit more than from all the therapy in the world.
