I watch a lot of movies & old comedy. Sometimes I notice something worth talking about. So I talk about it.

Dame Edna getting told she’s in the Queen Mother’s box and immediately treating it like a minor clerical error is still unmatched. She claims it wasn’t attention-seeking, she just thought the royal box was hers, then asks who it’s actually reserved for if not her. After graciously giving up the seat (so typical of her), she points out they probably prefer it anyway because there’s a little room at the back where they can have a snooze during the slow bits. That last line is pure Edna: she turns getting kicked out of the royal box into a gentle suggestion that the actual royals need nap breaks. Only she could make entitlement feel like a public service.

for nearly a month, the same customer kept bringing the same suitcase to our repair shop in porto, claiming the handle was loose. every time, my supervisor tightened it, tested it, and handed it back. by the fourth visit, my supervisor was convinced the man wanted free repairs. he told me to refuse the next one. when the customer returned, i tested the handle myself. it was solid. then i noticed a bright orange tag tied to the side, with a locker number written in black marker. “why do you keep bringing it back?” i asked. “because i keep finding it in the wrong place,” he said. he explained that he stored his suitcase at the station before work. twice, he'd returned to find a similar case in his locker. the first time, he only noticed the difference at his hotel. the second time, he found clothes that weren't his. “i thought someone was swapping them by mistake,” he said. “but now i'm not even sure this is my suitcase.”

Emmanuel Lewis introduces Don Rickles at Reagan’s second inaugural and just casually drops “Be funny” before walking off. Rickles doesn’t even blink. He immediately hits the basketball line and keeps rolling straight into roasting the President while Reagan sits there cracking up. The nerve of a kid from Webster giving notes to the most dangerous roast comic in the room, at a presidential event, and Rickles treating it like the perfect setup is still the part that gets me.

I DON’T EVEN KNOW WHAT RATING TO GIVE LUPIN, BECAUSE THIS SHOW TESTED EVERY LAST BIT OF MY PATIENCE. 😭 First of all, why was Assane working around everybody like a GOD? BUT THE STORYLINE WITH RAOUL? THAT’S WHAT REALLY GOT ME. SPOILERS AHEAD. I honestly cannot bring myself to blame Raoul for turning against his father the way he did. Assane kept promising that he would show up for his son, but there was always another plan, another secret, another reason why Raoul had to wait. He promised to take him to Senegal after prison. Then came more complications. Raoul watched his father build a relationship with Adèle while he was still struggling to feel like he mattered. And instead of telling his son the whole truth, Assane kept making decisions for him. What did he expect? Raoul gave his father chance after chance. Eventually, Hubert Pellegrini the very man Assane had spent years fighting became someone Raoul was willing to listen to. That is what broke me about this storyline. Pellegrini didn’t create the distance between father and son. He found it, understood it, and used it. And this is something I will keep saying to parents: TALK TO YOUR CHILDREN. Tell them the truth in an age-appropriate way. Explain what is happening. Especially when they are old enough to recognize that you keep making promises you don’t intend to keep. You cannot neglect your child emotionally, repeatedly disappoint them, keep them in the dark, and expect them to trust you forever just because you are their parent. Sometimes, children who grow up without love, attention, boundaries, and guidance carry that pain into adulthood. Some become desperate for approval. Some struggle to trust. Some make destructive choices because somebody finally offers them the attention they have been craving. That doesn’t excuse every bad decision. But it helps explain how the damage begins. And the most painful part? Parents sometimes don’t realize how badly they’ve hurt their children until someone else comes along and uses that hurt against them. Lupin frustrated me, but Raoul’s storyline made me angry in a completely different way. Tell me honestly: Was Raoul wrong for turning against Assane, or did Assane spend so long failing his son that he helped create the very situation he now has to face?

Sometimes, you don’t get caught because you made a mistake. You get caught because someone finally paid attention. We often think we’ve covered our tracks and that nobody will figure out the truth. Then someone who knows what to look for starts asking questions, and everything begins to fall apart. Sometimes, the only reason you got away with something was that nobody had looked closely enough.

Some people only believe you've changed when they can no longer predict your behavior. You used to forgive quickly, so they expected another chance. You used to explain every decision, so they assumed they were entitled to an explanation. You used to put their needs before yours, so your sacrifices became part of what they expected from you. Then you start responding differently. You stop arguing about the same problems. You become comfortable saying no. You no longer feel the need to defend every choice you make. And suddenly, you're not the person they used to know. Maybe they're right. Maybe you've changed because you've finally learned what your old habits were costing you. People who benefited from the old version of you may struggle to accept the new one. That doesn't automatically make them bad people. But their discomfort doesn't mean you owe them the person you used to be.

NBC tried to fix one late night ratings problem and ended up creating a much bigger one. In 2009, Jay Leno moved to a nightly prime time show at 10 p.m, while Conan O’Brien took over The Tonight Show. The arrangement was supposed to keep both hosts at NBC. But Leno’s prime time show struggled to meet the needs of local affiliates, which said the weaker lead in was hurting their late night news audiences. NBC then tried to bring Leno back to his old late night slot while moving Conan’s Tonight Show later. Conan refused. In January 2010, he announced he would not participate in moving The Tonight Show to a later time, and he ultimately left NBC. There are two sides to the argument. NBC had real business pressures: affiliates depended on their news audiences and the network had to respond when its schedule wasn’t working. But the network had also made a succession plan. Trying to rearrange the deal after Conan had taken over damaged trust and turned a programming problem into a public fight. My take is that NBC’s mistake wasn’t caring about ratings. A network has to care about ratings. It was trying to protect both arrangements without fully confronting the conflict between them. A strategy that only works while everything goes right isn’t much of a strategy.

for eleven nights, the same scraping sound came from somewhere in our building at exactly 2:13 a.m. everyone blamed the student upstairs. the building chat was full of complaints about him dragging furniture around at night. i recorded the sound and went upstairs the next morning. his chairs were stacked upside down on his table. “i haven’t moved anything at night,” he said. “and that doesn’t sound like a chair to me. it sounds metallic.” the next night, we listened together. at 2:13, the scrape came again, followed by a sharp click. he pointed toward the radiator pipe. “does your heating start around this time?” he asked. i checked the building noticeboard. the central heating system switched into its overnight circulation cycle shortly after two. we finally had a lead, so we called the building manager.

the woman who took my coat at a laundromat in rotterdam left something in the pocket that made me go back the next morning: a tiny plastic dinosaur with one blue-painted eye. i knew it wasn't mine. neither was the receipt tucked beside it, dated three weeks earlier. the attendant recognised the coat and called its owner, marit. when she heard about the dinosaur, she went quiet. “please don't throw it away,” she said. “a little boy has been searching for that thing every morning.” she explained that she'd found it on the number seven tram. the boy had been getting off with his mother, crying and checking the floor. marit picked it up, but the doors closed before she could reach them. “why didn't you give it to the driver?” “i kept thinking i'd see them again,” she admitted. i asked when and where she'd last seen the boy.

This has got to be the most honest review of The Tonight Show ever given, and it came from a man NBC was quietly auditioning to replace Johnny Carson. “At the end of the three weeks, I was a blithering idiot,” Bob Newhart told Craig Ferguson. When Ferguson looked chagrined, Newhart clarified: it’s the toughest job in the world

Source : La Tribune Dimanche.

Having loki fake his redemption would be terrible writing. season 2 ended with him making the ultimate sacrifice choosing eternal solitude just to give his friends a chance to live. undermining that for a cheap trick would completely destroy the emotional weight of his entire arc.

We have become obsessed with the idea that success should come without discomfort. We look for shortcuts, easy wins, and ways to reach our goals without giving anything up. But meaningful progress often forces us to choose between what we want now and what we want most. Building a career, earning someone's trust, or becoming a different person can cost you comfort, time, and temporary peace. That's the part nobody can optimize away. The real question isn't how to avoid every sacrifice. It's knowing what is worth sacrificing for.
