🧵Am struck by how quickly the thermostatic flip in public opinion on tax and spending seems to have happened this Parliament. In 2024, Britons prioritised investing in public services over cutting tax (54% - 30%). Now, that’s flipped: 49% choose tax cuts, 36% public services

Britain ranks 30th out of 38 OECD countries for tax competitiveness. In a new report, Daniel Herring at the Centre for Policy Studies warns that a wealth tax and higher capital gains tax would make Britain even less competitive - making the UK the least tax-efficient place in the OECD to own property. cps.org.uk/research/a-wealth…

John Healey reportedly wants to help small businesses at the Budget. New polling by @OpiniumResearch for @CPSThinkTank shows they definitely need it! Opinium polled 500 SMEs bosses across the UK. Overwhelmingly, they felt govt wasn't on their side. But help do they need? (1/?)

ASTOUNDING POLL The “mega poll” is by company PLMR with Electoral Calculus and published by the Daily Mail overnight It would see Reform win 445 MPs, Labour 73 MPs, Lib Dems 42 MPs, Your Party 13 MPs & Tories 7 MPs with a handful of greens It projects Reform would return an earth shattering majority of 258, which is more than Baldwin in 1924 Along with YouGov, it kills dead the “Kemi bounce” narrative. In fact, she loses her seat RFUK 34% CON 25% in this poll Rachel Reeves, Yvette Cooper, Bridget Phillipson and Ed Miliband would all be ousted by Reform Robert Jenrick, Suella Braverman, Rishi Sunak and IDS would all lose their seats to Reform too Shabana Mahmood and Wes Streeting would lose their seats to Your Party The poll of 7,449 British adults took place from September 10 to 18 - before the party conference season

I don’t usually join panels, but given the news and my presence on the ground, I was asked to weigh in. Here’s my response to a panelist who appeared to be defending Vladimir Putin amid Russia’s ongoing war against Ukraine: “Do you want to save Ukrainian civilian lives, or would you rather hinder and kneecap what’s supposed to be your ally in its fight for survival against Russia? That’s simply what it comes down to now.”

Trump doubles down on his idiotic claim that Putin would have won the war in a single day if Russian generals hadn't turned off the highway into muddy fields. This makes zero sense - unless it is meant to explain away Putin's defeat in the Battle of Kyiv

Stephen Kinnock’s claim that there were no boat people because we were in the European Union is a straightforward lie. Illegal immigrants flooded in by lorry, train and cars. They disappeared into towns/cities and couldn’t be properly counted. When advances in technology made these methods of transport much harder to use the illegal migrants took to boats, courtesy of the people smugglers. Since the boats are usually interdicted on arrival the counting is easier. Nothing to do with being in or out of the EU.
Old bird on #bbcqt really got under @SKinnock skin by trolling his traitor father & how he's benefited from the corrupt EU. Fiona Bruce kept trying to calm the panel down when it was only Stephen Kinnock losing it.
